  1. 1. Oxidative Damage in Fish Used as Biomarkers in Field and Laboratory Studies

    Författare :Bethanie Carney Almroth; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fish; oxidative stress; antioxidant enzymes; glutathione; protein carbonyls; lipid peroxidation; biomarkers; pollution; aging;

    Sammanfattning : Many toxic xenobiotics entering into the aquatic environment exert their effects through redox cycling. Oxidative stress, incorporating both antioxidant defences as well as oxidative damage, is a common effect in organisms exposed to xenobiotics in their environment. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Lipid biomarkers and other geochemical indicators in paleoenvironmental studies of two Arctic systems : a Russian permafrost peatland and marine sediments from the Lomonosov Ridge

    Författare :Rina Argelia Andersson; Magnus Mörth; Richard Pancost; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lipid biomarkers; peat; permafrost; Arctic Ocean; marine sediments; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The reconstruction of past environmental conditions is a fascinating research area that attracts the interest of many individuals in various geological disciplines. Paleoenvironmental reconstruction studies can shed light on the understanding of past climates and are a key to the prediction of future climate changes and their consequences. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Lipid peroxidation in vivo : Evaluation and application of methods for measurement

    Författare :Eva Södergren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; lipid peroxidation; hydroperoxides; F2-isoprostanes; MDA; prostaglandins; measurement; carbon tetrachloride; vitamin E; dietary fat quality; rapeseed oil; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Lipid peroxidation is thought to be an important factor in the pathophysiology of a number of diseases and in the process of ageing, but its measurement in vivo has been difficult. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate methods for measurement of lipid peroxidation in vivo that are suitable for clinical investigations, and to apply these methods in animal and human studies investigating basal conditions and situations associated with increased lipid peroxidation. Sammanfattning : Deep atmospheric convection in the Indo-Pacific Warm Pool (IPWP) is a key driver of the Hadley and Walker Circulations that modulate the Asian-Australian monsoons and the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Temperature and rainfall seasonality, i.e. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Determination of biomarkers for lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress : Development of analytical techniques and methods

    Författare :Kristina Claeson Bohnstedt; Bo Karlberg; Niels Heegaard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; capillary electrophoresis; mass spectrometry; electrospray; porous graphitic carbon; oxidative stress; lipid peroxidation; biomarker; malondialdehyde; hydroxynonenal; isoprostane; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Oxidative stress can be defined as a state of disturbance in the pro-oxidant/antioxidant balance in favour of the former, leading to potential damage. Processes associated with oxidative stress involve reactive oxygen species and radicals and can result in elevated levels of oxidatively modified or toxic molecules that can cause cellular malfunction, and even cell death.
