  1. 1. Linking water and permafrost dynamics

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Department of Physical Geography, Stockholm University

    Författare :Ylva Sjöberg; Stockholms universitet.; [2015]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; permafrost; hydrology; arctic; modeling; streamflow; geophysical measurements; ground thermal dynamics; groundwater; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The extent and dynamics of permafrost are tightly linked to the distribution and movement of water in arctic landscapes. As the Arctic warms more rapidly than the global average, profound changes are expected in both permafrost and hydrology; however, much is still not known about the interactions between these two systems. 2. 2. Permafrost carbon in a changing Arctic On periglacial landscape dynamics, organic matter characteristics, and the stability of a globally significant carbon pool

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Department of Physical Geography, Stockholm University

    Författare :Niels Weiss; Stockholms universitet.; [2017]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Permafrost; Carbon; Climate; Arctic; Soil; Organic Matter; Cryosphere; Geomorphology; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Organic matter (OM) in arctic permafrost ground contains about twice as much carbon (C) as is currently present in the atmosphere. Climate change is particularly strong in the Arctic, and could cause a considerable part of the OM in permafrost to thaw out, decompose, and be released as greenhouse gases; further enhancing global warming. 3. 3. Holocene dynamics in subarctic peat plateaus of west-central Canada : Vegetation succession, peat accumulation and permafrost history

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Institutionen för naturgeografi och kvartärgeologi

    Författare :A. Britta K. Sannel; Stockholms universitet.; [2007]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peatlands; permafrost; carbon accumulation; fire; subarctic; Holocene; NATURAL SCIENCES Earth sciences Exogenous earth sciences Physical geography; NATURVETENSKAP Geovetenskap Exogen geovetenskap Naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Dynamics in vegetation, permafrost and peat and net carbon accumulation rates throughout the Holocene have been studied in two subarctic peat plateaus of west-central Canada through plant macrofossil analysis, geochemical analyses and AMS radiocarbon dating. Peatland formation at the studied sites began around 6600-5900 cal yr BP as a result of paludification of upland forests. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Quantity and quality of soil organic matter in permafrost terrain

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Department of Physical Geography and Quaternary Geology (INK), Stockholm University

    Författare :Gustaf Hugelius; Stockholms universitet.; [2011]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbon; soil organic matter; soil organic carbon; permafrost; arctic; upscaling; peat plateau; cryoturbation; active layer; thermokarst; carbon nitrogen ratio; stable isotopes; humification; NATURAL SCIENCES Earth sciences Exogenous earth sciences Physical geography; NATURVETENSKAP Geovetenskap Exogen geovetenskap Naturgeografi; geografi med naturgeografisk inriktning; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : High latitude terrestrial ecosystems are considered key components in the global carbon (C) cycle and hold large reservoirs of soil organic carbon (SOC). Much of this is stored as soil organic matter (SOM) in permafrost soils and peat deposits and is vulnerable to remobilization under future global warming. LÄS MER

  5. 5. A song of ice and mud Interactions of microbes with roots, fauna and carbon in warming permafrost-affected soils

    Detta är en avhandling från Umeå : Umeå University

    Författare :Sylvain Monteux; Umeå universitet.; [2018]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microbial communities; permafrost; functional limitations; rhizosphere; SOM decomposition; soil fauna; climate change; carbon dioxide;

    Sammanfattning : Permafrost-affected soils store a large quantity of soil organic matter (SOM) – ca. half of worldwide soil carbon – and currently undergo rapid and severe warming due to climate change. LÄS MER
