    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I explore neural machine translation (NMT) models via targeted investigation of various linguistic phenomena and thorough exploration of the internal structure of NMT models, in particular the attention mechanism. With respect to linguistic phenomena, I explore the ability of NMT models to translate ambiguous words, to learn long-range dependencies, to learn morphology, and to translate negation—linguistic phenomena that have been challenging for the older paradigm of statistical machine translation.     Sammanfattning : Why are we talking about coloniality in postcolonial times? And what does language have to do with it? In addressing these two broad questions, this thesis sets out to provide empirically well-grounded reflections focusing: First, on how young Mozambicans’ linguistic repertoires and discursive practices relate to their sense of being in the world. And second, on how their perceptions resonate with recent sociolinguistic debates about the different roles language and ideologies play in constructing and reproducing conditions of contemporary coloniality. Two aspects of lexical richness were investigated in the study, i.e., diversity (the ability to use a varied lexical repertoire), and sophistication (the proportion of relatively infrequent words).     Sammanfattning : This thesis seeks to contribute to the body of ethnographically-oriented semiotic landscape research by addressing linguistic and non-linguistic signs in the landscapes of contemporary Crimea.
