  1. 21. On osseointegration in response to controlled surface nanotopography

    Författare :Dimitrios Karazisis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; in vivo; nanotopography; osseointegration; topography;

    Sammanfattning : Knowledge about the biological responses provoked by the surface modification of titanium implants on the nanoscale is still in its infancy. Although in vitro studies claim superior effects considering higher adhesion and proliferation of osteoblasts in the short term and even differentiation towards the osteogenic cell lineage in the long term, these responses do not necessarily reflect the actual outcome in the complex in vivo environment. 2. 22. Model Calibration of Nonlinear Mechanical Systems Using Multi-Harmonic Frequency Response Functions

    Författare :Yousheng Chen; Andreas Linderholt; Thomas Abrahamsson; Ahlin Kjell; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; finite element model calibration; multi-harmonic frequency response function; Fisher information matrix; nonlinear structural dynamics; identifiability; data informativeness; Maskinteknik; Mechanical Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : In industry, linear finite element models are commonly employed to represent global structural behavior. It is crucial that the computational models are able to accurately represent the structures’ behavior. This cannot always be achieved by the use of linear models. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Physiology of Adventure Racing : with emphasis on circulatory response and cardiac fatigue

    Författare :C. Mikael Mattsson; Björn Ekblom; Keith P George; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiovascular drift; cardiac fatigue; adventure race; cardiac biomarkers; cardoac function; exercise echocardiography; Physiology; Fysiologi; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Sports; Idrott; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to elucidate the circulatory responses to ultra-endurance exercise (Adventure Racing), and furthermore, to contribute to the clarification of the so called “exercise-induced cardiac fatigue” in relation to said exercise. An Adventure race (AR) varies in duration from six hours to over six days, in which the participants have to navigate through a number of check-points over a pre-set course, using a combination of three or more endurance/outdoor sports, e. 4. 24. Bacteria-host cell interactions : Studies on initial colonization, antimicrobial peptides, and biofilms

    Författare :Gabriela Wassing; Ann-Beth Jonsson; Elena Vikström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neisseria meningitidis; Lactobacillus; host responses; EGR1; antimicrobial peptides; hBD2; A20; biofilm; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : The obligate human pathogen Neisseria meningitidis asymptomatically colonizes the upper respiratory tract, but crossing of the epithelial barrier can cause life-threatening meningitis and/or sepsis. N. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Apoptotic neutrophils enhance the immune response against Mycobacterium tuberculosis

    Författare :Alexander Persson; Olle Stendahl; Per-Arne Oldenborg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases; Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is the causative agent of tuberculosis, a disease that for years was considered to belong of the past, but tuberculosis is back causing over 2 million deaths per year. The infection can be dormant for decades and an active immune response can prevent the infection from progressing into active disease. LÄS MER
