  1. 31. Writing in deaf and hard-of-hearing children : A bimodal bilingual perspective on their written products and writing processes

    Författare :Moa Gärdenfors; Krister Schönström; Victoria Johansson; Naomi Caselli; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; DHH; CODA; cochlear implants; hearing aids; sign language; bilingualism; literacy; writing development; keystroke logging; writing fluency; revision; linguistic complexity; lexical density; lexical diversity; spelling; cross-linguistic influence; transfer; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents unique insights into the written products and writing processes of Swedish deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) children using a keystroke logging tool. Writing processes encompass the activities (such as planning or revision) that writers engage in during the production of the written text. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Clinical and Genetic Studies of Hearing Impairment

    Författare :Carina Frykholm; Ulla Friberg; Hans-Christian Larsen; Niklas Dahl; Marie-Louise Bondeson; Lisbeth Tranebjaerg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Otorhinolaryngology; NF2; array-CGH; Meniere’s disease; PIK3C2G; X-linked; progressive; hearing impairment; Otorhinolaryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Monogenic disorders offer a possibility for studies of genetic disturbances in hearing impairment—a knowledge which could be essential for development of future treatment options. In this thesis, the underlying genetic disturbances in neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2) and familial Meniere’s disease (FMD) were evaluated, and familial X-linked hearing impairment was described from a clinical point of view. 3. 33. Sound Classification in Hearing Instruments

    Författare :Peter Nordqvist; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sound Classification HMM Hearing Aid; Signal processing; Signalbehandling;

    Sammanfattning : A variety of algorithms intended for the new generation of hearing aids is presented in this thesis. The main contribution of this work is the hidden Markov model (HMM) approach to classifying listening environments. This method is efficient and robust and well suited for hearing aid applications. 4. 34. Rethinking Sound : Computer-assisted reading intervention with a phonics approach for deaf and hard of hearing children using cochlear implants or hearing aids

    Författare :Cecilia Nakeva von Mentzer; Björn Lyxell; Birgitta Sahlén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Computer-assisted reading intervention; phonics approach; deaf and hard of hearing; children; cochlear implants; hearing aids; Datorbaserad fonologisk lästräning; döva och hörselskadade barn; cochleaimplantat; hörapparat;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, computer-assisted reading intervention with a phonics approach was examined in deaf and hard of hearing children (DHH) aged 5, 6 or 7 years old using cochlear implants, hearing aids or a combination of both. Children with normal hearing (NH), matched for non-verbal intelligence and age, served as a reference group. LÄS MER

  5. 35. On Transient Noise and its Reduction in Hearing Aids

    Författare :Anders Gingsjö; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; gun shots; sound exposure; speech intelligibility; signal processing; transient reduction; hearing aid; transient noise;

    Sammanfattning : The most important property of a hearing aid is to facilitate verbal communication for hearing impaired people. However, tuning of the acoustical parameters in a hearing aid in order to optimize the speech intelligibility may result in a harsh and unpleasant sound. LÄS MER
