1. Sound intolerance : characteristics, psychosocial work factors and reactions to exposure
Sammanfattning : Sound intolerance refers to an adverse reaction to sounds at sound pressure levels most people do not find bothersome. It is sometimes associated with hearing loss and tinnitus, but neither conditions are a prerequisite for being intolerant to sounds. LÄS MER
2. Classroom noise : exposure and subjective response among pupils
Sammanfattning : In Sweden, all children must have access to education of equal value and the curriculum points out the importance of a good environment for development and learning. Modern working methods differ a lot from the traditional. Teaching nowadays is focused on problem-solving. Students are more interactive, working in groups and projects. LÄS MER
3. Sound propagation from sustainable ground vehicles : from aeroacoustic sources to urban noise
Sammanfattning : Transportation is the main source of environmental noise in Europe, with an estimated 125 million people affected by excessive noise levels from road traffic, causing a burden of noise related diseases and having a substantial economic impact on society. In order to reduce exposure to high levels of traffic noise, two approaches are the topic of extensive research: preventing sound from propagating from roads and railways using for example noise barriers, and reducing the sources of noise themselves. 4. Human response to wind turbine noise : perception, annoyance and moderating factors
Sammanfattning : Aims: The aims of this thesis were to describe and gain an understanding of how people who live in the vicinity of wind turbines are affected by wind turbine noise, and how individual, situational and visual factors, as well as sound properties, moderate the response. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a flat, mainly rural area in Sweden, with the objective to estimate the prevalence of noise annoyance and to examine the dose-response relationship between A-weighted sound pressure levels (SPLs) and perception of and annoyance with wind turbine noise. 5. Virtual reality exposure therapy for spider phobia
Sammanfattning : Exposure therapy for specific phobia involving systematic and repeated presentation of an aversive stimuli or situation is a highly effective treatment for reducing fear and anxiety. Dissemination of this evidence-based treatment has proved challenging, however, and for over 20 years an alternative method of delivery using virtual reality technology has been explored with positive results.
