  1. 16. Ecology and genetic population structure of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins in East Africa

    Författare :Anna Särnblad Hansson; Per Berggren; Anders Angerbjörn; Göran Spong; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Tursiops aduncus; population size; distribution; social structure; behaviour; conservation status; mitochondrial DNA; microsatellites; Zanzibar; western Indian Ocean; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Many marine mammal populations are threatened by anthropogenic activities. The Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops aduncus) off Zanzibar are subject to high levels of bycatch, negative impact from tourism and were previously hunted. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Significance of HIV-1 genetic subtypes

    Författare :Annette Alaeus; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV-1; genetic subtypes; molecular epidemiology; disease progression; CD4 cell decline; plasma RNA levels; chemokine coreceptor usage;

    Sammanfattning : The human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) displays high genetic variability. Phylogenetic studies have shown that a majority of HIV-1 sequences cluster into one large group called M (major), whereas a few are clearly distinct, group O (outlier) and group N (non-M-non-O). 3. 18. Chorangiomas : histopthological, clinical and genetic studies

    Författare :Meeli Sirotkina; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Chorangioma (CA), although, is the most common non-trophoblastic, vascular, tumor-likelesion of the placenta with incidence approximately 0.5-1% of all examined placentas, the specific etiology and genetic background of these lesions is still poorly understood. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Recurrent Genetic Mutations in Lymphoid Malignancies

    Författare :Emma Young; Richard Rosenquist; Larry Mansouri; Lesley Ann Sutton; Dimitar Efremov; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lymphoid malignancies; mutations; CLL; stereotypy; subsets; PMBL; NFKBIE; EGR2; whole-genome sequencing; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years, the genetic landscape of B-cell derived lymphoid malignancies, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), has been rapidly unraveled, identifying recurrent genetic mutations with potential clinical impact. Interestingly, ~30% of all CLL patients can be assigned to more homogeneous subsets based on the expression of a similar or “stereotyped” B-cell receptor (BcR). LÄS MER

  5. 20. Genetic determinants of breast cancer risk

    Författare :Jingmei Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Breast Neoplasms;

    Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis was to identify genetic risk factors using both hypothesis-based and hypothesis-free approaches. In an attempt to identify common disease susceptibility alleles for breast cancer, we started off with a hypothesis-free approach, and performed a combined analysis of three genome-wide association studies (GWAS), involving 2,702 women of European ancestry with invasive breast cancer and 5,726 controls.
