21. Genetic and molecular mechanisms of sarcomas
Sammanfattning : Sarcomas are heterogeneous malignant mesenchymal tumors with diverse biological features and unique clinical characteristics, the genetic alterations of sarcomas are highly variable. With the development of sequencing technologies, efficient and practical approaches to detect gene expressions and gene variants contribute to the prediction of patient prognosis and the choice of treatment modalities. 22. Analysis of genetic variations in cancer
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to apply recently developed technologies for genomic variation analyses, and to ensure quality of the generated information for use in preclinical cancer research.Faster access to a patients’ full genomic sequence for a lower cost makes it possible for end users such as clinicians and physicians to gain a more complete understanding of the disease status of a patient and adjust treatment accordingly. 23. Inbreeding, Effective Population Sizes and Genetic Differentiation : A Mathematical Analysis of Structured Populations
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers on various aspects of inbreeding, effective population sizes and genetic differentiation in structured populations, that is, populations that consist of a number of subpopulations. Three of the papers concern age structured populations, where in the first paper we concentrate on calculating the variance effective population size (NeV) and how NeV depends on the time between measurements and the weighting scheme of age classes. 24. Biodiversity and genetic patterns in marine invertebrates
Sammanfattning : Abstract: Systematics based on genetic data has both confirmed and contradicted earlier, morphologically defined species and their relatedness. Morphology does not always correspond to genetic lineages, and this will inevitably affect both traditional systematics as well as biodiversity assessments. LÄS MER
25. Cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality : influence of fitness, fatness and genetic factors
Sammanfattning : BackgroundLow aerobic fitness and obesity are associated with atherosclerosis, and thereforegreatly increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and early death. It has long been known that atherosclerosis my begin early in life. LÄS MER
