1. PROTEIN FOLD SWITCHING IN COARSE-GRAINED MODELS
Sammanfattning : Proteins carry out the instructions encoded in genes and are crucial for many important tasks in the living organism. Often the specific three dimensional structure, or fold, of a protein enables it to carry out a given task. LÄS MER
2. Resonant switching and vortex dynamics in spin-flop bi-layers
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a study of the static and dynamic behavior of the magne-tization in spin-flop bi-layers, which consist of two soft ferromagnetic layerscoupled by dipolar forces through a thin nonmagnetic spacer. The focus ofthe work is three fold: collective spin dynamics in the anti-parallel groundstate; resonant switching in the presence of thermal agitation; and static anddynamic behavior of the system in the vortex-pair state, with a particularemphasis on the interlayer core-core interaction. 3. Mating type switching and transcriptional silencing in Kluyveromyces lactis
Sammanfattning : To explore the similarities and differences of regulatory circuits among budding yeasts, we characterized the role of unscheduled meiotic gene expression 6 (UME6) and a novel mating type switching pathway in Kluyveromyces lactis. We found that Ume6 was required for transcriptional silencing of the cryptic mating-type loci HMLα and HMRa. LÄS MER
4. Genomic and transcripto variation in blood stage Plasmodium falciparum
Sammanfattning : Malaria research has entered a postgenomic era since October 2002, when the complete genomic sequence of Plasmodium falciparum strain 3D7 was published. A massive amount of information generated by the P. falciparum genome project has facilitated the development of many novel platforms for profiling different levels of biological aspects. LÄS MER
5. Characterization of the MRI patient exposure environment and exposure assessment methods for magnetic fields in MRI scanners
Sammanfattning : Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become one of the most common imaging modalities available in modern medicine, and it is an indispensable diagnostic tool thanks to the unparalleled soft-tissue contrast and high image resolution. It is also a unique exposure environment consisting of a complex mix of magnetic fields. LÄS MER
