1. Mating type switching and transcriptional silencing in Kluyveromyces lactis
Sammanfattning : To explore the similarities and differences of regulatory circuits among budding yeasts, we characterized the role of unscheduled meiotic gene expression 6 (UME6) and a novel mating type switching pathway in Kluyveromyces lactis. We found that Ume6 was required for transcriptional silencing of the cryptic mating-type loci HMLα and HMRa. LÄS MER
2. Characterization and expression of subtypes of nicotinic receptors in brain and adrenal medulla : with focus on development, Alzheimer's disease and transgenic animal models
Sammanfattning : The cholinergic nicotinic receptors (nAChRs) seem to play an important role in numerous important physiological processes in brain as well as peripheral tissues of man. In first trimester human brain mRNA levels for the alpha3, alpha4, alpha5, alpha7, beta2, beta3, and beta4 nAChR subunits and binding sites were detected at 5 weeks of gestation. LÄS MER
3. The diverse role of laminin isoforms in neuronal cells, human mast cells and blood platelets
Sammanfattning : The close interaction of cells with other cells and with extracellular matrix (ECM) components is a prerequisite in a number of biological activities. During development of the nervous system, axons often navigate a considerable distance depending on the type of molecular factors they encounter. LÄS MER
4. NK cell recognition of herpesviruses : mechanisms of viral immune escape
Sammanfattning : Herpesviruses are ubiquitous pathogens which after an often asymptomatic infection establish lifelong latency in the host. Control of the viral infection depends on both innate and adaptive immune system. LÄS MER
5. Interactive mechanism between beta-amyloid process, alfa7 nicotinic receptor, glial cell activation and oxidative stress in Alzheimer's disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia with pathological features including the accumulation of neuritic plaques (NPs) and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). These degenerative processes are also accompanied by impaired cholinergic transmission, oxidative stress, activated glia and inflammation reaction. LÄS MER
