1. Towards Energy-Efficient Drinking Water Production using Biomimicry
Sammanfattning : Water is a prerequisite for life and we therefore need pure drinking water to survive. Yet there are more than half a billion people that do not have access to pure drinking water. Water treatment can be performed in many different ways, one of the most commonly used being filtration. LÄS MER
2. Water physiology in burn victims
Sammanfattning : Patients who sustain a burn injury of more than 20 - 30 % TBSA will, if untreated, develop burn shock within a couple of hours. Flcid is lost fi·om the vascular compartment due to suction from the interstitium of the wound and due to a generalised increase in vascular permeability. LÄS MER
3. Regulation of Renal Hyaluronan in Water Handling : Studies in vivo and in vitro
Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan (HA) is a negatively charged extracellular matrix (ECM) component with water-attracting properties. It is the dominating ECM component in the renal medullary interstitium, where the amount changes in relation to hydration status: it increases during hydration and decreases during dehydration. 4. Lung hyaluronan and lung water in the perinatal period
Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan is an important component of the lung extracellular matrix, with a high capacity for water immobilization, but information on perinatal changes in the lung hyaluronan concentration and their association with changes in the lung water content is limited. In this study, conducted both in rabbit pups and in human infants, we investigated changes in the hyaluronan concentration and distribution in the lung and in the lung water content after preterm or term birth, and changes produced by common antenatal and postnatal pathological conditions and treatments. 5. Prediction Models and Pharmacogenomics in Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to study clinical and genetic factors that influence response to growth hormone replacement therapy (GHRT) in GH deficient (GHD) adults. The patients were part of a cohort of adults with hypopituitarism and severe GHD who were studied before and after 12 months of GHRT. LÄS MER
