  1. 1. Eosinophil Cationic Protein : Expression Levels and Polymorphisms

    Författare :Jonas Byström; Helene Rosenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Eosinophils; Neutrophils; Monocytes; Macrophages; mRNA; eosinophil cationic protein; DNA; polymorphism; Hodgkin Lymphoma; asthma; allergy; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) is usually associated with the eosinophil granulocyte. In this thesis the presence and production of this protein has been studied in two other cells. The circulating monocyte was found to contain ECP mRNA and small amounts of ECP, one thousand times less than that found in the eosinophil. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Folates in the treatment of colorectal cancer

    Författare :Helena Taflin; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Folate; Colorectal cancer; leucovorin; modufolin; LC-MS MS; polymorphisms; MTHFR; adjuvant chemotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Folates in the Treatment of Colorectal Cancer Department of Surgery Institute of Clinical Sciences at Sahlgrenska Academy University of Gothenburg Helena Taflin Background: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world, and radical surgery with total removal of the tumour (RO-resection) is the single most important treatment. However, chemotherapy is recommended for patients with risk factors and patients with metastatic disease. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Sex steroid metabolism and body composition

    Författare :Charlotte Swanson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :UDP glucuronosyltranferases; polymorphisms; androgens; glucuronidated androgen metabolites; fat mass; bone; metabolic risk factors; population study;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The bioactive androgens testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) regulate bone and fat mass in men. The effects of androgens are largely determined by the rate of their synthesis and inactivation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Interactions between nutrition, obesity and the immune system

    Författare :Louise Strandberg; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :obesity; nutrition; infection; polymorphisms; interleukin; fatty acids; fat mass; neutrophils; innate immunity; mortality;

    Sammanfattning : There are several links between body fat and the immune system. For example, mice lacking activity of the pro-inflammatory interleukin-(IL)-1 and IL-6 develop obesity. Conversely, obesity is associated with adipose tissue inflammation and increased risk of infection. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Aspects of Vitamin D : Prevalence of deficiency and impact on musculoskeletal parameters

    Författare :Anne Björk; Östen Ljunggren; Gunnar Johansson; Andreas Kindmark; Anna Spångeus; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vitamin D; CYP2R1; Vitamin D receptor Gene; Polymorphisms; Muscle Strength; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin D is central in calcium turnover, and adequate levels are important for skeletal health. It is not clear how large contributions from food and sunlight are in Swedish primary care patients, considering the low radiation of UVB in Sweden and fortification of some foods, and whether differences exist between patients of immigrant and Swedish origin.
