    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to shed light on different aspects of elderly South Africans experiences in a transitional period in order to reach culturally contextual knowledge within gerontological care. The research objectives were to: identify and describe daily life and related concerns and interests as expressed by a group of elderly (I), illuminate how a group of elderly South Africans experience being old in a transitional period (II), study how a group of aged South Africans and their family members describe their intergenerational relations in a transitional period i.     Sammanfattning : Asthma and allergies are some of the most common illnesses worldwide that almost everybody will come in contact with. This thesis studied persons with allergic asthma, non-allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis in a population-based sample.     Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of this doctoral thesis was to examine and evaluate if and how an intensive care unit (ICU) room, which had been designed using the principles of evidence-based design (EBD), impacted the safety, wellbeing and caring for patients, their family members and staff.Methods: Paper I explored the nursing staff experiences of working in an EBD intensive care patient room through 13 interviews that were analysed by qualitative content analysis. The study is based on the ecological project in Navestad, a suburb area in Norrköping, that is a pilot project in the local investments programs that the government established to create an ecologically durable society.
