21. UV-based advanced oxidation process for nutrient stabilisation and organic micropollutant degradation in source-separated human urine
Sammanfattning : Urine dehydration is one of the technological approach to recover nutrients in concentrated form from source separated urine. When drying fresh urine, nitrogen loss occurs due to hydrolysis of urea into ammonia unless methods to inactivate urease enzyme are employed. LÄS MER
22. Food or fuel? : trade-offs between food and biofuels globally and in small-scale organic agriculture
Sammanfattning : There are great expectations on agriculture to provide both food and fuels in the future. Previous attempts to estimate the global bioenergy potential have produced varying results, indicating major uncertainty. This thesis investigated the global theoretical 'potential', or limit, for biofuels based on current agricultural systems. LÄS MER
23. Biorefinery systems for energy and feed production : greenhouse gas performance and energy balances
Sammanfattning : The current dependence on fossil fuels is problematic because these are a finite resource and because their combustion causes environmental degradation. Biorefineries produce a variety of valuable products from biomass that can replace products from petroleum refineries. LÄS MER
24. Time and spatial dependent climate impact of grass cultivation and grass-based biogas system
Sammanfattning : One strategy to limit global warming is to phase out fossil products and replace them with bio-based alternatives. This is often referred to as transitioning from a fossil economy to a bioeconomy. LÄS MER
25. Opposition and adjustment to industrial ‘greening’ : the Swedish forest industry’s (re)actions regarding energy transition – 1989-2009
Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses how the Swedish forest industry has (re)acted regarding the energy transition and, in particular, regarding the reconstruction of the electricity and forest resources in Sweden during the 1989–2009 period. The thesis consists of four papers that analyse how the Swedish forest industry by means of energy management practices at individual pulp and/or paper mills, in corporate strategies performed by CEOs and boards of directors, and via its industry association, has dealt with mounting political and public demands for the industry to become ‘greener’.
