  1. 1. Protecting forests through partnerships

    Författare :Ulrika Widman; Camilla Sandström; Eeva Primmer; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; forests; formal protection; forest owners; public-private partnerships; Nature Conservation Agreements; the Komet program; forest governance; Sweden; statskunskap; political science;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the potential of private-public partnerships (PPPs) to involve private forest owners in formal forest protection. These partnerships have been widely advocated as means to engage actors from diverse sectors in collaborative new relationships, formed in a step-wise manner, to improve management of resources that combine public and private goods. 2. 2. Remote Sensing of Carbon Balance across Scandinavian Forests

    Författare :Pontus Olofsson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Forests; Natural science; Naturvetenskap; Carbon balance; Remote sensing;

    Sammanfattning : A methodology for estimating the carbon balance across Scandinavian forests using remote sensing is presented. By estimating the gross primary production (GPP) and the ecosystem respiration (ER), and thereby, the net ecosystem exchange (NEE), using parameters that are routinely retrieved from satellite, it is possible to implement an operational model for obtaining large scale NEE. 3. 3. Stress-induced BVOC emissions from forests in Sweden

    Författare :Erica Jaakkola; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Volatile organic compounds; Plant stress; Forests; Volatile emissions; spruce bark beetle infestations; ozone stress; wildfire recovery; Picea abies Norway spruce ; Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii; Pinus sylvestris Scots pine ; sweden;

    Sammanfattning : A changing climate is expected to lead to more extreme weather events, such as an increased frequency of droughts and forest fires. Changing forest conditions can offer benefits to species such as insects, including bark borers that thrive in warm conditions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Bioenergy from Swedish forests : A Study of extraction methods, quality and effects for forest owners

    Författare :Daniel Nilsson; Johan Bergh; Peter Lerman; Gudmund Vollbrecht; Nasko Terziew; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; logging residues; forest fuels; moisture content; needles; nutrients; moisture content measurements; Norway spruce; dry-stacking; fresh-stacking; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The forest constitutes a very important element of renewable natural resources and makes a significant contribution to the Swedish bioeconomy. Biofuels are Sweden’s largest source of energy; of all the energy we use, 32% comes from biofuels, and of this approximately 85% comes from the forest and the forestry sector. LÄS MER
