  1. 21. Study of the Link between Translation Termination and Ribosome Biogenesis

    Författare :Magdalena Kaczanowska; Monica Rydén Aulin; Catherine L. Squires; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Release factor 1 (RF1) is a ribosome-binding protein required for termination of translation in Escherichia coli. To study the effect of slow termination on protein synthesis, two isolated suppressors to a temperature sensitive (Ts) mutant allele of RF1 were studied. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Regulation of the germinal center response by T follicular helper cells and type I interferons

    Författare :Madelene Dahlgren; Adaptivt immunförsvar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Germinal Center; T follicular helper cell; type I interferon; dendritic cell; adjuvant; differentiation; IgG;

    Sammanfattning : The protective effect of most currently available vaccines is dependent on high-affinity antibodies and long lived B cell memory, which develop within organized structures of secondary lymphoid organs called germinal centers (GCs). GC formation is supported by T follicular helper (Tfh) cells, a subset of CD4+ T cells that develop in parallel to other effector T cells and specifically localizes to B cell follicles. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Immuno-regulatory dynamics of non-structural protein 1 of avian influenza A viruses : IFN-β, NF-κB and AP-1 perspectives

    Författare :Muhammad Munir; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The type I interferon (IFN-α/β) system represents the first line of defense against influenza A viruses, and is mainly mediated by the interferon regulatory factors 3/7 (IRF3/7), nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and activator protein 1 (AP-1) transcription factors. Therefore, the non-structural protein 1 (NS1) of influenza A viruses has intrinsic abilities to disarm the host cell IFN system, and as a consequence is deeply connected to influenza virus pathogenicity and virulence. 4. 24. Host genetic risk factors to viral diseases - a double-edged sword : Studies of norovirus and tick-borne encephalitis virus

    Författare :Elin Kindberg; Lennart Svensson; Jorma Hinkula; Bertil Lindblom; Tomas Bergström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Virology; Virologi;

    Sammanfattning : It is today well known that the outcome of a certain infection depends on factors of both the host and the pathogen. Studies of host genetic susceptibility to infectious diseases aim to increase the understanding of why some individuals are more susceptible than others, to a certain infection. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Interferons in antiviral defense and autoimmunity : focus on type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Monica Hultcrantz; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Type 1 diabetes; interferons; islets of Langerhans; Coxsackievirus; nonobese diabetic mouse;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a disease characterized by the loss of insulin producing beta-cells in the pancreatic islets of Langerhans. Interferons (IFNs), produced by immune cells and infected parenchymal cells, may be protective or damaging in the pathogenesis of T1D. LÄS MER
