21. Study of the Link between Translation Termination and Ribosome Biogenesis
Sammanfattning : Release factor 1 (RF1) is a ribosome-binding protein required for termination of translation in Escherichia coli. To study the effect of slow termination on protein synthesis, two isolated suppressors to a temperature sensitive (Ts) mutant allele of RF1 were studied. LÄS MER
22. Regulation of the germinal center response by T follicular helper cells and type I interferons
Sammanfattning : The protective effect of most currently available vaccines is dependent on high-affinity antibodies and long lived B cell memory, which develop within organized structures of secondary lymphoid organs called germinal centers (GCs). GC formation is supported by T follicular helper (Tfh) cells, a subset of CD4+ T cells that develop in parallel to other effector T cells and specifically localizes to B cell follicles. LÄS MER
23. Immuno-regulatory dynamics of non-structural protein 1 of avian influenza A viruses : IFN-β, NF-κB and AP-1 perspectives
Sammanfattning : The type I interferon (IFN-α/β) system represents the first line of defense against influenza A viruses, and is mainly mediated by the interferon regulatory factors 3/7 (IRF3/7), nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and activator protein 1 (AP-1) transcription factors. Therefore, the non-structural protein 1 (NS1) of influenza A viruses has intrinsic abilities to disarm the host cell IFN system, and as a consequence is deeply connected to influenza virus pathogenicity and virulence. 24. Host genetic risk factors to viral diseases - a double-edged sword : Studies of norovirus and tick-borne encephalitis virus
Sammanfattning : It is today well known that the outcome of a certain infection depends on factors of both the host and the pathogen. Studies of host genetic susceptibility to infectious diseases aim to increase the understanding of why some individuals are more susceptible than others, to a certain infection. LÄS MER
25. Interferons in antiviral defense and autoimmunity : focus on type 1 diabetes
Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a disease characterized by the loss of insulin producing beta-cells in the pancreatic islets of Langerhans. Interferons (IFNs), produced by immune cells and infected parenchymal cells, may be protective or damaging in the pathogenesis of T1D. LÄS MER
