1. Solvent–Solute Interaction : Studied by Synchrotron Radiation Based Photo and Auger Electron Spectroscopies
Sammanfattning : Aqueous solutions were studied using photoelectron and Auger spectroscopy, based on synchrotron radiation and a liquid micro-jet setup. By varying the photon energy in photoelectron spectra, we depth profiled an aqueous tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI) solution. LÄS MER
2. Compensation of Losses in Foreign Subsidiaries within the EU : A Comparative Study of the Unilateral Loss-Compensation Mechanisms in Austria and Denmark
Sammanfattning : This study commences in the problems related to the restricted possibilities for cross-border groups to take losses incurred in foreign subsidiaries into account upon taxation. These difficulties lead to the situation where the overall tax burden of the group, seen as an economic unit, might exceed its economic capacity. LÄS MER
3. Design of pyrimidine-based photoresponsive surfaces and light induced wettability control
Sammanfattning : For photochromic molecules, the ability to switch reversibly between two states is controlled largely by structural effects. The photodimerization of 5-methyluracil, commonly known as thymine, a member of the pyrimidine family and one of the DNA bases, is a particularly important reaction in photobiology, one which occurs when the molecule is subjected to UV irradiation. 4. Far-infrared conformer-specific signatures of small aromatic molecules of biological importance
Sammanfattning : Our understanding of many biological processes requires knowledge about biomolecular structure and weak intra- and intermolecular interactions (e.g. hydrogen bonding). Both molecular structure and weak interactions can be directly studied by far-infrared (or THz) spectroscopy, which probes low-frequency molecular vibrations. LÄS MER
5. Waves and Trajectories in Quantum Dots
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with electron transport in low-dimensional semiconductor nanostructures, and in particular, systems with quasi zero-dimensional properties, called quantum dots. These systems are so small that the electron wavelength is comparable to the size of systems, which means that the wave nature of the electrons is of fundamental importance. LÄS MER
