  1. 1. Transtructures : prototyping transitional practices for the design of postindustrial infrastructures

    Författare :Lorenzo Davoli; Johan Redström; Cameron Tonkinwise; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Infrastructures; transition design; postindustrial design; system design; drones; participation; design practices; automation; hacking; logistic; telecommunications; sustainable development; hållbar utveckling; design; design;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation is about 'transtructures', a term coined to describe new kinds of infrastructures that are more attentive and responsive to the needs of contemporary society, its emerging economies and technological capabilities. The purpose of this inquiry is to begin to explore the character and possibilities of a design practice that could guide responsibly and ethically the transition of existing industrial infrastructures towards these new configurations: what processes it could follow, and what materials it could include. 2. 2. Remake: Design Foundations

    Författare :Anna Lidström; Lars Hallnäs; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; waste; surplus; redesign; remake; design; method; clothing;

    Sammanfattning : leftovers, waste, and surplus generated by increasing production and consumption of material goods. Their problem is not new, and over the last decade the search for a solution has given rise to various theories about and technologies for resource recovery and waste management. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Faster. Stronger. Better? : designing for enhanced engagement of extreme sports

    Författare :Rouien Zarin; Andreas Lund; Johan Redström; Ambra Trotto; Tom Djajadiningrat; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; constructive design research; design prototypes; prototypes; design research; research through design; embodiment; sports; interaction; technology; user experience; human computer interaction; tactile; feedback; design; design;

    Sammanfattning : The human body is capable of very rich and complex movements and gestures which we use in everyday life to manipulate, navigate and negotiate the world around us—it is our interface for human experience. However, as technology advances it simultaneously shrinks, moving closer to our bodies, intertwining with the many facets of our lives and positions itself between our experiences of the physical environments around us. 4. 4. Towards automated conceptual design space exploration

    Författare :Jakob Müller; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering Design; Model Abstraction; Function Modelling; Knowledge Based Engineering; Model Based Design; Function-Means Modelling; Geometry Modelling; Design Space Exploration; Product Development; Systems Engineering; Design Automation; Aerospace;

    Sammanfattning : In mature and safety-concerned industries, such as the aerospace industry, product development is often incremental and design solutions are limited to improvements of an existing design. Radical changes to the known product architecture are avoided, for reasons of reliability, lack of technology or lack of design space exploration (DSE) methods. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Surface patterns, spatiality and pattern relations in textile design

    Författare :Tonje Kristensen Johnstone; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Surface patterns; textile design; spatiality; spatial definers; design variables; pattern relations; conceptual spatial determinations; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis focuses on surface patterns, spatiality, and pattern relations in textile design, and aims to explore surface patterns as spatial definers and what they mean in the context of surface patterns. A secondary focus relates to applying conceptual spatial determinations as alternative design variables in design processes, and exploring how these could be used to define and analyse pattern relations.
