  1. 1. Novel and Traditional Risk Factors for Coronary Artery Disease : Role of Coronary Artery Calcium, Lipidomics, Psychosocial Factors and Diet

    Författare :Demir Djekic; Ole Fröbert; Annika Rosengren; Tuulia Hyötyläinen; Anna M. Nordenskjöld; Magnus Bäck; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Novel risk factors; coronary artery calcium; lipidomics; lipidome; psychosocial factors; vegetarian diet; gut microbiota; metabolome;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The aim of the research reported in this thesis was to determine the association of novel and traditional risk factors with coronary artery calcium (CAC), a marker of subclinical coronary artery disease (CAD) in healthy individuals. In addition, we investigated the effects of a vegetarian, compared to a meat diet, on novel and traditional risk factors in patients with diagnosed CAD. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Investigation of the origin of the coronary artery calcification process and its relationship to the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease

    Författare :George Koulaouzidis; Michael Henein; Katrine Åhlström Riklund; Jan Engvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coronary artery calcification; ethnicity; South Asians; Caucasians; reproducibility; aortic valve calcification; mitral valve calcification; family history of coronary artery disease; natural history; coronary artery calcium score; meta-analysis;

    Sammanfattning : The objectives of this thesis are: a) To examine racial/ethnic differences in coronary artery calcification (CAC) and CAD, between symptomatic South Asians and Caucasians, matched for age, gender and conventional cardiovascular risk factors, b) To assess, using a meta-analysis model, the natural history of and stability of measurements of coronary artery calcium scoring (CACs) based on data collected from two large published trials: St Francis and EBEAT, c) To investigate the prevalence of coronary artery calcification in individuals with CT evidence for AVC, mitral valve calcification (MAC) or of both of them (AVC+MAC), d) To assess any potential association between premature CAD (.. 3. 3. Insight into Coro-Carotid atherosclerotic disease in patients with acute coronary syndrome

    Författare :Rafik B. Shenouda; Michael Y. Henein; Per Wester; Ana Djordjevic-Dikic; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute coronary syndrome; Agatston score; Atherosclerosis; Carotid calcifications; Carotid intima media thickness; Coronary calcifications; Echocardiography; Speckle tracking echocardiography; Strain; Strain rate; Tissue Doppler Imaging.; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: the arterial tree branches in different parts of human body are sharing the histological and physiological features. Atherosclerosis is a systemic arterial disease, hence is expected to affect to affect more than one arterial system with similar pathologic manifestations. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Inflammation and matrix degrading proteases in coronary artery disease

    Författare :Ann Samnegård; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Myocardial infarction; matrix metalloproteinases; inflammation; polymorphism; haplotype; gender; cytokines;

    Sammanfattning : Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major cause of morbidity and death in the world today. The underlying process, atherosclerosis, is caused by lipid accumulation and inflammatory processes within the intimal layer of the vessel wall. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Patient stratification and treatment effects in diseases with disturbed cardiac function

    Författare :Gabriel Granåsen; Urban Wiklund; Frida Sandberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biostatistics; Heart rate variability; Cardiac amyloidosis; hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; cluster analysis; Echocardiography; Long QT syndrome; Pediatric; Statins; Coronary artery calcium; Computer tomography; Machine learning; Predictive modeling;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiovascular disease characteristics are often measured using a combination of different measurement modalities. By combining information from these modalities using statistical modelling we can gain additional knowledge about these diseases. LÄS MER
