  1. 1. Studies of atherogenic lipoproteins using mass spectrometry-based lipidomics

    Författare :Marcus Ståhlman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lipids; lipoproteins; atherogenesis; lipidomics; type 2 diabetes; mass spectrometry;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is increasing worldwide and is about to reach epidemic proportions. The disease is often associated with dyslipidemia which is characterized by an atherogenic lipoprotein profile including elevated serum triacylglycerol levels, low high-density lipoprotein levels and high levels of small low-density lipoproteins. 2. 2. Novel and Traditional Risk Factors for Coronary Artery Disease : Role of Coronary Artery Calcium, Lipidomics, Psychosocial Factors and Diet

    Författare :Demir Djekic; Ole Fröbert; Annika Rosengren; Tuulia Hyötyläinen; Anna M. Nordenskjöld; Magnus Bäck; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Novel risk factors; coronary artery calcium; lipidomics; lipidome; psychosocial factors; vegetarian diet; gut microbiota; metabolome;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The aim of the research reported in this thesis was to determine the association of novel and traditional risk factors with coronary artery calcium (CAC), a marker of subclinical coronary artery disease (CAD) in healthy individuals. In addition, we investigated the effects of a vegetarian, compared to a meat diet, on novel and traditional risk factors in patients with diagnosed CAD. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Imaging mass spectrometry for in situ lipidomics: from cell structures to cardiac tissue

    Författare :Sanna Sämfors; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Myocardial infarction; PC12 cells; Cell membrane; Mass spectrometry imaging; Sample preparation; Lipidomics; ToF-SIMS; Gas cluster ion beam;

    Sammanfattning : Imaging of cells and tissues is important for studying different processes within biological systems due to the spatial information provided for different molecular species during imaging. One powerful imaging technique is mass spectrometry imaging (MSI). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Development of Enhanced Analytical Methodology for Lipid Analysis from Sampling to Detection : A Targeted Lipidomics Approach

    Författare :Giorgis Isaac; Jonas Bergquist; Karin Markides; Monica Waldebäck; William Christie; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; electrospray ionization; lipids; liquid chromatography; mass spectrometry; pesticides; phosphatidylcholine; pressurized fluid extraction; sphingomyelin; sulfatides; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis covers a wide range of analytical method development for lipid analysis in complex biological samples; from sample preparation using pressurized fluid extraction (PFE) and separation with reversed phase capillary liquid chromatography (RP-LC) to detection by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI/MS) and tandem MS.The requirements for fast, reliable and selective extraction methods with minimal usage of solvents have accelerated the development of new extraction techniques. 5. 5. A functional genomic investigation of an alternative life history strategy : The Alba polymorphism in Colias croceus

    Författare :Alyssa Woronik; Christopher Wheat; Antonia Monteiro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alternative life history strategy; butterfly wing color; Alba; Colias; color polymorphism; dimorphism; life history traits; physiology; lipidomics; genomics; pooled sequencing; phylogenomics; RNA-Seq; Pool-Seq; populationsgenetik; Population Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Life history traits affect the timing and pattern of maturation, reproduction, and survival during an organism’s lifecycle and are the major components influencing Darwinian fitness. Co-evolved patterns of these traits are known as life history strategies (LHS) and variation occurs between individuals, populations, and species. LÄS MER
