1. Spaces within Spaces : The Construction of a Collaborative Reality
Sammanfattning : This thesis is about collaborative activities in interactive spaces. These spaces are characterized by having shared, large displays in combination with private displays and software tools that facilitate a fluent sharing of information between people and their resources. LÄS MER
2. Presence Design : Mediated Spaces Extending Architecture
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a contribution to design-led research and addresses a readership in the fields of architecture as well as in media and communications. In juxtaposing the tools of the designer (e.g. LÄS MER
3. Carving out collective spaces : Exploring the complexities of gender and everyday stressors within rural youth leisure
Sammanfattning : Background: The reasons why young people are increasingly suffering frommental health problems, and the opportunities to turn this development aroundare globally debated. Stressors such as education, relationships, futuretrajectories of housing and employment all constitute important factors affectingyoung people’s mental health, leading to stress and achievement pressureespecially among girls and young women. 4. From Numerical Sensor Data to Semantic Representations : A Data-driven Approach for Generating Linguistic Descriptions
Sammanfattning : In our daily lives, sensors recordings are becoming more and more ubiquitous. With the increased availability of data comes the increased need of systems that can represent the data in human interpretable concepts. LÄS MER
5. Quasi-analytical Modelling and Optimisation Techniques for Transport Aircraft Design
Sammanfattning : The research work presented here focuses on the subject oftransport aircraft design at the pre-design or conceptuallevel. The primary topics addressed are: (1) generation of avast array of new quasi-analytical expressions to permit aconceptual treatment of commercial and business transportaircraft with adequate sensitivity for more advanced tradestudies; (2) review and adoption of a method to predictstability and control characteristics (using the Mitchellmethod); (3) a study of the relative merits between variousmethods in facilitating an expedient and robust constrainedmulti-objective optimisation result within the context oftraditional conceptual design problems (Genetic Algorithms andNelder-Mead Simplex search); (4) creation of a software packageas a new and unique conceptual tool that permits the generationof design proposals in an accurate yet expeditious manner; and,(5) practical demonstration of the new conceptual designsoftware package by undertaking some actual aircraft designproposals.
