1. Molecular and clinical studies of cartilage and bone macromolecules in arthritis
Sammanfattning : The pathogenesis of inflammatory arthritides include synovial inflammation and joint tissue destruction. Tissue destruction has traditionally been regarded a consequence of inflammation, but recent observations indicate that the processes are not always closely linked and may proceed uncoupled. LÄS MER
2. Female stress incontinence and uterovaginal prolapse : collagen turnover and hormone sensitivity in urogenital tissue
Sammanfattning : Background: Prevalence of both stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and uterovaginal prolapse (UP) is high and rising with age. Risk factors include multiparity, obesity, chronic obstructive lung disease and previous gynecological surgery. The underlying pathology is still unknown but may include defective connective tissue. 3. Back pain in primary care : aspects on treatment and the possible influence of oral contraceptives
Sammanfattning : The general objectives of this thesis were to investigate back pain in a primary-care setting, and especially to study the effect of manual treatment on pelvic-joint dysfunction, the effect of sterile-water injections on chronic, myofascial pain and the possible influence of oral contraceptives (OC) on back pain in women in the fertile ages. The effect of a single intervention with manipulation mobilisation was compared with that of massage on pelvic-joint dysfunction with regard to sick-leave, consumption of analgesic, pain and joint mobility. 4. Joint disease biomarkers - discovery and application
Sammanfattning : Dysregulated cartilage homeostasis, articular cartilage degradation and abnormal bone remodeling are common denominators in joint disease and can lead to severe disability for the patients. The molecular pathways behind the disease pathology can overlap across different joint diseases. LÄS MER
5. Hormone replacement therapy in rheumatoid arthritis
Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is 2-3 times more frequent in women as compared to men. The peak incidence in women coincides with the years around the menopause and the course of RA is also influenced by events associated with hormonal alterations. LÄS MER
