  1. 1. Genom genuslinser : Om patienters jämställdhet i tillgång till operation av gråstarr i Sverige

    Författare :Goldina Smirthwaite; Katarina Swahnberg; Barbro Wijma; Nina Lykke; Sylvia Määttä; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; equity in care; waiting time; cataract extraction; doing gender; intersectionality; situated knowledges; critical realism; Vårdvetenskap; Caring Science;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The aim was to examine waiting times for cataract extraction in Sweden from an intersectional gender perspective; quantitative with regard to waiting times for different patient groups, and qualitative in order to identify factors that might contribute to gender differences in waiting time. Furthermore, the aim was to examine implications of critical realism and situated knowledges for studies of gender differences among patients regarding access to cataract extraction and more generally as grounds for studies of (in)equity in care. 2. 2. Posterior capsule opacification : An experimental study in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Niklas Wallentin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Posterior capsule opacification PCO ; after-cataract; lens epithelial cell; proliferation; aqueous humor AqH ; inflammation; growth factors; basic fibroblast growth factor bFGF ; transforming growth factor-β TGF-β ; extracapsular cataract extraction; corneal incision; rabbit; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Sammanfattning : The clinical and economic significance of posterior capsule opacification (PCO) makes it an important public health problem. A better understanding of the pathogenesis in order to reduce/prevent PCO is needed. For this purpose an experimental model in the rabbit was used and further developed in thisthesis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Outcome after surgery of congenital cataract

    Författare :Anna Lundvall; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Congenital cataract; cataract surgery; intraocular lens; infant; paediatric; rabbit; complication; glaucoma; after-cataract; posterior capsule opacification.;

    Sammanfattning : The visual outcome in infants undergoing surgery for bilateral congenital cataract has improved considerably because of improved surgical methods and the realisation that early detection, allowing early cataract extraction and immediate optical correction, can prevent otherwise irreversible deprivation amblyopia. The management of unilateral congenital cataract is still of the most difficult problems in paediatric ophtalmology. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Cataract from ultraviolet radiation in the mouse

    Författare :Linda Maren Meyer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Lens; cataract; ultraviolet radiation; oxidative stress; mouse; light scattering;

    Sammanfattning : Cataract is defined as an opacification of the crystalline lens that results in visual impairment, Cataract is the number one cause of blindness in the world and there are currently no strategies to prevent it. Extraction of cataractogenous lenses is the most commonly performed surgical intervention in industrialized countries. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cataract surgery in patients with diabetes mellitus : clinical studies

    Författare :Anna Zaczek; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :diabetic retinopathy; clinically significant macular edema; miosis; mydriasis; neuropathy; phenylephrine; pilocarpine; visual acuity; laser flare intensity; cataract surgery; phacoemulsification; blood-aqueous barrier; postoperative inflammation; posterior capsule opacification; intraocular lens; Scheimflug camera;

    Sammanfattning : The aim was to evaluate phacoemulsification cataract extraction with small incision and implantation of heparin-coated intraocular lens (IOL) in the capsular bag in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). The aqueous flare intensity, which reflects the protein concentration in the aqueous humor, was used to evaluate blood-aqueous function in patients with DM type I and type II. LÄS MER
