  1. 1. Prognostic factors in renal cell carcinoma : evaluation of erythropoietin and its receptor, carbonic anhydrase IX, parathyroid hormone-related protein and osteopontin

    Författare :Karin Papworth; Torgny Rasmuson; Börje Ljungberg; Kjell Grankvist; Sten Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Renal cell carcinoma; EPO; EPO-R; CA IX; PTHrP; OPN; prognosis; Oncology; Onkologi; onkologi; Oncology;

    Sammanfattning : A prognostic factor is a marker or a feature that can be used to estimate the risk of recurrence of disease, metastatic spread and clinical outcome. Despite intensive search for more sophisticated markers in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), few have added prognostic information to earlier described factors like stage of disease, nuclear grade, tumour type, and in metastatic disease; performance status, anaemia, hypercalcaemia and increased erythrocyte sedimentation. 2. 2. Development of Peptide Binders : Applied to Human CRP, Carbonic Anhydrase (II, IX) and Lysine Demethylase 1

    Författare :Jie Yang; Jan Kihlberg; Morten Grötli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polypeptide conjugates; molecular recognition; peptide cyclization; protein targets;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, a polypeptide binder concept is illustrated. By conjugation to a set of sixteen polypeptides, a small binding molecule can evolve into a polypeptide binder with increased affinity and selectivity. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mechanistic studies on the role of extracellular vesicles in the tumor microenvironment

    Författare :Helena Christianson; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; microvesicle; exosome; Key words Extracellular vesicle; glioblastoma; hypoxia; angiogenesis; acidosis; proteoglycan; endocytosis; carbonic anhydrase IX; biomarker.;

    Sammanfattning : The transition from normal into malignant cells with acquired uncontrolled growth is a process where cancer cells viciously develop adaptive strategies to overcome microenvironmental and metabolic stress. Hypoxia, or deficient oxygen supply, is a common feature of the expanding tumor which alters cell metabolism and consecutively causes lowered intracellular pH. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Perdeuteration of Biological Macromolecules: A Case Study of Human Carbonic Anhydrases

    Författare :Katarina Koruza; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neutron protein crystallography; deuteration; protein production; cancer; inhibitor; human carbonic anhydrase IX;

    Sammanfattning : Deuterated biomolecules - where hydrogen atoms (H) are exchanged to its isotope deuterium (D) - are essential for biological experiments in neutron scattering, but they are not readily available. In neutron scattering, D has a strong positive coherent scattering length (6.67 fm) in comparison with the negative scattering length of H (-3.74 fm). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Angiogenesis in human renal cell carcinoma : hypoxia, vascularity and prognosis

    Författare :Johanna Sandlund; Torgny Rasmuson; Börje Ljungberg; Kjell Grankvist; Anders Bergh; Elisabeth Kjellén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endoglin CD105; CD31; prognosis; CA IX; HIF-2α; renal cell carcinoma; tissue microarray; immunohistochemistry; real-time PCR; stage; grade; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Angiogenesis is recognised as a critical step in tumour progression. The angiogenic switch is activated by various trigger signals, such as hypoxia, low pH, and genetic mutations. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is often an aggressive tumour, and advanced disease has limited treatment options and bad prognosis. LÄS MER
