16. Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in Brain Tumors - Clinical Applications
Sammanfattning : Aims: · to present a test phantom and test method for evaluation of proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) single volume localization techniques regarding signal contamination; · to describe the introduction of 1H-MRS in the daily routine of a standard MR-unit; · to evaluate the possibilities offered by 1H-MRS to improve preoperative diagnostic accuracy in patients scheduled for stereotactic biopsy of intracranial mass lesions; · to evaluate the possibilities offered by 1H-MRS to improve diagnostics and therapy control in patients with brain abscesses; · to test the hypothesis that 1H-MRS might be useful for differentiation of brain tumors, based on metabolic changes in tissue across brain lesions or surrounding tissue. Results and conclusions: · The test phantom and test method allow quality assessment with good reproducibility. LÄS MER
17. Clusterin in brain and cerebrospinal fluidin Alzheimer s disease
Sammanfattning : The apolipoprotein clusterin is suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer¡¦s disease (AD). At the start of these studies, results had indicated that clusterin was elevated in AD brain, compared with controls. LÄS MER
18. Label free analysis and spatial distribution of molecular lipids in brain tissue and cells using mass spectrometry imaging
Sammanfattning : Lipids are important inherent components in brain and cell membranes, which play significant biological roles in cell function. Identification and localization of specific biomolecules such as peptides and lipids within cellular membranes is currently a major challenge in metabolomics and biological studies. LÄS MER
19. Inflammation-Induced Gene Expression in Brain and Adrenal Gland
Sammanfattning : The autonomic nervous system serves to maintain a constant inner environment, a process termed homeostasis. Thus, in response to the homeostatic challenge posed by infectious agents, the autonomic nervous system answers to signals from the immune system and elicits adaptive physiological and behavioral reactions. 20. Apoptosis-related mechanisms in the immature brain after hypoxia-ischemia
Sammanfattning : Aims: To characterize the activation of caspases-3 and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) in the neonatal brain after hypoxia-ischemia (HI) injury and evaluate the neuroprotective effect of X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP) protein, erythropoietin (EPO) and the non-erythropoietic derivative asialoEPO. Methods: Seven-day-old rats or 9-day-old mice were subjected to HI. LÄS MER
