21. Laminins and Fibulins in Bone Marrow
Sammanfattning : Development of hematopoietic cells in bone marrow takes place in association with the hematopoietic microenvironment. Extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules and stromal cells in bone marrow provide a structural environment for hematopoietic cells, but they also directly influence proliferation, differentiation and migration of cells by signal transduction mediated by ligand binding to cell surface adhesion receptors. 22. Hyaluronan Derivatives and Injectable Gels for Tissue Engineering
Sammanfattning : The present work describes the preparation of hyaluronan derivatives and hydrogels with potential use in tissue engineering applications. A potentially injectable hydrogel consisting of hyaluronan and collagen was successfully used to grow neurons in vitro by encapsulation of neural stem and progenitor cells. LÄS MER
23. The role of fibroblast growth factor-23 in chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder
Sammanfattning : Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) was initially identified as the causative factor of autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets. Further studies confirmed that FGF23 is predominantly expressed in the osteocytes and osteoblasts of bone and that circulating FGF23 acts on the kidney to inhibit renal phosphate reabsorption and 1,25(OH)2D3 hydroxylation. 24. The role of S100A4 protein as a regulator of inflammation and bone metabolism in experimental arthritis
Sammanfattning : S100A4 belongs to the family of calcium-binding S100 proteins and modulates cell proliferation, cytoskeletal rearrangement, cell motility, and angiogenesis. Increased levels of S100A4 expression correlate with high incidence of metastasis of cancers. LÄS MER
25. Bone mass and physical activity
Sammanfattning : Abstract Weak and osteoporotic bones in old age are an increasing cause of mortality and painful physical impairment of the elderly, especially in the western world. Bone mineral accrual during childhood and adolescence is thought to play a vital role in preventing osteoporosis. LÄS MER
