16. COMT Genotype, sex steroids, and bone phenotype in mice and men
Sammanfattning : COMT GENOTYPE, SEX STEROIDS AND BONE PHENOTYPE IN MAN AND MICE Anna-Lena Eriksson Institute of Medicine, University of Gothenburg, Göteborg, Sweden, 2008 ABSTRACT Sex steroids are of profound importance for several physiological processes including reproduction, growth, and maintenance of skeletal integrity. Serum levels of sex steroids are associated with bone mineral density (BMD) and have been shown to be predictive of fracture risk in older people. LÄS MER
17. Physical Activity, Bone Mass and Bone Structure in Pre-pubertal Children
Sammanfattning : Low bone mineral density (BMD) is a risk factor for fractures and much of the fracture preventive effort today is devoted to preventing low BMD. Physical activity (PA) has been described as one of the best strategies to optimize skeletal development in the growing child. LÄS MER
18. Skeletal Development During the First Three Decades in Life
Sammanfattning : AbstractBackground: Areal bone mineral density (aBMD) measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is a surrogate estimate of bone strength. The highest value in life is referred to “peak bone mass” (PBM). LÄS MER
19. Late Effects After Autologous Bone Marrow Transplantation in Childhood
Sammanfattning : Fifty children with hematologic malignancies have been treated with autologous BMT in Uppsala. The aim was to describe late effects in this group with special reference to cataracts, reduced final height, and to hepatic, renal, and pulmonary late effects. LÄS MER
20. A prospective chohort study on bone formation and bone loss in ankylosing spondylitis
Sammanfattning : Background and objectives: Patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) have an increased risk of bone loss with development of osteoporosis and vertebral fractures (VFs) but also spinal new bone formation with growth of bony spurs (syndesmophytes) between the vertebrae. Measurements of spinal bone mineral density (BMD) by the routine method dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in anteroposterior (AP) projection can be difficult to interpret due to the spinal new bone formation.
