    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, porous graphitic carbon (PGC) has been used as packing material in packed capillary liquid chromatography. The unique chromatographic properties of PGC has been studied in some detail and applied to different analytical challenges using both electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and ultra violet (UV) absorbance detection. 2. 12. Application of metalation reactions for synthesis of sulfur/selenium-containing heterocyclic compounds

    Författare :Hamid Shirani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Heterocycles; indoles; 3- arylthio indoles; thiopyranobisindoles; dibenzothiepins; 3; 3′-dithiobisindoles; alkaloids; echinosulfone A; cyclization; ortho-metalation; McMurry coupling; sulfides; sulfones and disulfides;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals mainly with the synthesis of various sulfur/selenium-containing heterocyclic compounds, many of which include structural features present in several biologically active molecules, with particular emphasis on compounds of synthetic importance, such as indoles, as well as other heteroaromatic species. In the first part, an efficient procedure toward synthesis of new 3-(arylthio)indoles based on reactions of aryl Grignard reagents or lithiated heteroaromatics with protected 3,3′-dithiobisindoles is described. 3. 13. Application of chemical oxidation processes for the removal of pharmaceuticals in biologically treated wastewater

    Författare :Gerly Hey; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : The discharge of effluents from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is considered to be the major source of residual pharmaceuticals frequently found in aquatic environments. The complex nature of such compounds tends to make conventional biological treatments aimed at their removal ineffective. LÄS MER

  4. 14. BIOACTIVE SECONDARY METABOLITES -Isolation Characterization and Synthesis

    Författare :Carola Valdivia; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Baccharis genistelloides; Piper heterophyllum; Myrtus Communis; Coprinus heptemerus; Thapsia garganica; Piper longestylosum; Piper obliquum; Natural Products;

    Sammanfattning : Nature produces biologically active and chemically intriguing secondary metabolites. To isolate and characterize compounds of novel activity and structure, bioassay-guided fractionations were applied to several plants as well as to a basidiomycete. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Development of 2-Pyridone-based central fragments : Affecting the aggregation of amyloid proteins

    Författare :Magnus Sellstedt; Fredrik Almqvist; Petri Pihko; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 2-pyridone; central fragment alteration; multi-component reactions; directed diversity-oriented synthesis; peptidomimetics; amyloid; protein aggregation; pilicide; curlicide; Biorganic Chemistry; bioorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : There are many applications of small organic compounds, e.g. as drugs or as tools to study biological systems. Once a compound with interesting biological activity has been found, medicinal chemists typically synthesize small libraries of compounds with systematic differences to the initial “hit” compound.
