16. Cell and Particle Trapping in Microfluidic Systems Using Ultrasonic Standing Waves
Sammanfattning : Analysis methods are currently being miniaturized in order to save time and money while achieving higher sensitivities. The ultimate goal is to create a lab-on-a-chip where all analysis steps and instruments can be automated and integrated into a single chip. LÄS MER
17. Pesticide impact of intensive banana production on aquatic ecosystems in Costa Rica
Sammanfattning : A combination of chemical and biological studies demonstrated extensive surface water contamination, the occurrence of pesticides in sediments, especially near the banana plantation areas, and biological impacts. Pesticides were even found in the downstream waters of the Tortuguero conservation area, a highly diverse wetland that protects several endangered species. LÄS MER
18. Change of toxicity during secondary treatment of industrial sludge containing nitroaromatics
Sammanfattning : Wastewater treatment plants in Sweden are facing a great challenge due to the prohibition of depositing organic waste which gained legal force in January 2005. Biological and commercial available alternatives to disposal are composting and anaerobic digestion. LÄS MER
19. Development of Protein Microarray Chip Technology: An Outlook towards Proteomics and Diagnostics
Sammanfattning : One attractive method for monitoring biomolecular interactions in a highly parallel fashion is the use of microarrays. Microarrays can be applied for screening proteins which makes it an attractive tool in clinical diagnostics, drug discovery studies and basic protein research; even though many methodological challenges and ones relating to the quality control of microarrays still need to be solved. 20. Characterization of PAH-contaminated soils focusing on availability, chemical composition and biological effects
Sammanfattning : The risks associated with a soil contaminated by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are generally assessed by measuring individual PAHs in the soil and correlating the obtained amounts to known adverse biological effects of the PAHs. The validity of such a risk estimation is dependent on the presence of additional compounds, the availability of the compounds (including the PAHs), and the methods used to correlate the measured chemical data and biological effects.
