  1. 1. Bioassay analysis of dioxin-like compounds : response interactions and environmental transformation of Ah receptor agonists

    Författare :Helena Olsman; Magnus Engwall; John P. Giesy; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bioassay; dioxin-like; Ah receptor; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Dioxin-like compounds mediate their toxicity by binding to the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and through this receptor a cascade of biochemical and toxic events are triggered. Mechanism-specific dioxin bioassays utilise the AhR coupled induction of endogenous CYP1A proteins or reporter gene systems for detection of dioxin-like compounds and other AhR ligands. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Development of Protein Microarray Chip Technology: An Outlook towards Proteomics and Diagnostics

    Författare :Anton Ressine; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; materialteknik; Materiallära; Material technology; Teknik; Technological sciences; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; Diagnostik; Diagnostics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Biomedical sciences; water repellency; superhydrophobicity; proteolitic digestion; MALDI-TOF MS; bioassay; porous silicon; biomarker; diagnostics; protein microarrays; proteomics;

    Sammanfattning : One attractive method for monitoring biomolecular interactions in a highly parallel fashion is the use of microarrays. Microarrays can be applied for screening proteins which makes it an attractive tool in clinical diagnostics, drug discovery studies and basic protein research; even though many methodological challenges and ones relating to the quality control of microarrays still need to be solved. 3. 3. Physico-chemical characteristics and quantitative structure-activity relationships of PCBs

    Författare :Patrik Andersson; Stephen Safe; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polychlorinated biphenyls; PCBs; physico-chemical properties; statistical design; multivariate; PCA; PLS; biomagnification; BMF; bioassay; CYP1A; SAR; QSAR; REPs; risk assessment; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) comprise a group of 209 congeners varying in the number of chlorine atoms and substitution patterns. These compounds tend to be biomagnified in foodwebs and have been shown to induce an array of effects in exposed organisms. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Characterization of PAH-contaminated soils focusing on availability, chemical composition and biological effects

    Författare :Magnus Bergknut; Mats Tysklind; Dag Broman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAHs; availability; bioavailability; chemical analysis; characterization; GC-TOFMS; bioassay; toxicity; biological testing; multivariate methods; PCA; PLS; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : The risks associated with a soil contaminated by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are generally assessed by measuring individual PAHs in the soil and correlating the obtained amounts to known adverse biological effects of the PAHs. The validity of such a risk estimation is dependent on the presence of additional compounds, the availability of the compounds (including the PAHs), and the methods used to correlate the measured chemical data and biological effects. 5. 5. Use of phytometers for evaluating ecological restoration

    Författare :Anna L. Dietrich; Christer Nilsson; Martin Wassen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioassay; Channelization; Ecosystem change; Ecosystem response; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : The increase in ecological restoration can be attributed to valuation of healthyecosystems and concerns for future climate changes. Freshwaters belong among theglobally most altered ecosystems and are restored to counteract human impacts. LÄS MER
