1. Chemical and bioanalytical characterisation of PAH-contaminated soils : identification, availability and mixture toxicity of AhR agonists
Sammanfattning : Contaminated soils are a worldwide problem. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are common contaminants in soil at former industrial areas, especially at old gasworks sites, gas stations and former wood impregnation facilities. LÄS MER
2. From Proteomic Analysis to Biomarker Application - Studies of Carbonyl Reductase in Fish
Sammanfattning : Many anthropogenic substances are present in the aquatic environment, but there is limited information on how this combination of chemicals affects exposed wildlife. To assess the impact of chemicals, a biomarker approach is frequently applied in environmental biomonitoring programmes. LÄS MER
3. Change of toxicity during secondary treatment of industrial sludge containing nitroaromatics
Sammanfattning : Wastewater treatment plants in Sweden are facing a great challenge due to the prohibition of depositing organic waste which gained legal force in January 2005. Biological and commercial available alternatives to disposal are composting and anaerobic digestion. LÄS MER
4. Bioassay analysis of dioxin-like compounds : response interactions and environmental transformation of Ah receptor agonists
Sammanfattning : Dioxin-like compounds mediate their toxicity by binding to the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and through this receptor a cascade of biochemical and toxic events are triggered. Mechanism-specific dioxin bioassays utilise the AhR coupled induction of endogenous CYP1A proteins or reporter gene systems for detection of dioxin-like compounds and other AhR ligands. LÄS MER
5. Characterization of PAC-contaminated soil with the focus on availability, leachability and biological activities
Sammanfattning : Current risk assessments of polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs)-contaminated soil are often based on the 16 priority PAHs and do not consider availability of PACs in soil sufficiently. This may lead to uncertainties of the assessment, since important contaminants can be overlooked and only a small fraction of contaminants is available for the uptake for organisms. LÄS MER
