11. Bioprocess development for biochemical conversion of lignocellulose
Sammanfattning : Due to its low environmental impact and high maturity of the fuel ethanol market, lignocellulosic ethanol is a promising option for reducing the carbon footprint in the transport sector. The characteristics of lignocellulosic feedstocks, such as varied sugar composition, low sugar density, low solubility, recalcitrance to enzymatic degradation, and inhibitors formed during thermochemical pretreatment, have so far limited the production process, and costs for conversion of lignocellulosic materials to ethanol are still high. 12. Development of sensitive cellular assay systems and their application to the identification of "orphan" seven-transmembrane receptors
Sammanfattning : Seven-transmembrane, G-protein coupled receptors play a central role in physiology since they facilitate cell communication in multicellular organisms by recognition of a broad range of ligands. They also represent important drug targets. LÄS MER
13. Testosterone and 17beta-oestradiol secretions in children and adolescents. Assay development, levels for comparison and clinical applications
Sammanfattning : Accurate measurements of 17beta-oestradiol and testosterone are important in clinical settings of pubertal disorders and hormone replacement therapy among children. Most assays for measurement of these steroids are optimised for fertility investigations in adults and are not sensitive enough for quantification in children. LÄS MER
14. Development and Application of Proximity Assays for Proteome Analysis in Medicine
Sammanfattning : Along with proteins, a myriad of different molecular biomarkers, such as post-translational modifications and autoantibodies, could be used in an attempt to improve disease detection and progression. In this thesis, I build on several iterations of the proximity ligation assay to develop and apply new adaptable methods to facilitate detection of proteins, autoantibodies and post-translational modifications. 15. Understanding and manipulating primary cell walls in plant cell suspension cultures
Sammanfattning : The cell wall is required for many aspects of plant function and development. It is also an accessible and renewable resource utilized both in unrefined forms and as raw material for further development. Increased knowledge regarding cell wall structure and components will contribute to better utilization of plants and the resources they provide. LÄS MER
