  1. 6. Atrial Fibrillation in the setting of Coronary Artery Disease : Risks and outcomes with different treatment options

    Författare :Gorav Batra; Jonas Oldgren; Gunnar Gislason; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; coronary artery disease; acute coronary syndrome; myocardial infarction; percutaneous coronary intervention; coronary artery bypass grafting; antithrombotic therapy; angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors; angiotensin II receptor blockers; epidemiology; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of mortality worldwide and atrial fibrillation (AF) is a prevalent arrhythmia associated with increased risk of mortality and morbidity. Despite improved outcome in both diseases, there is a need to further describe the prevalence, outcome and management of CAD in patients with concomitant AF. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Mortality in Oxygen-Dependent Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Possibilities for Pharmacological Interventions

    Författare :Magnus Ekström; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; COPD; mortality; survival; comorbidity; cardiovascular disease; cardiovascular drugs; angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor; angiotensin receptor blocker; beta blocker; statin; aspirin; antiplatelet drug; gender; sex; oxygen-dependent; LTOT; trends; excess mortality; SMR; hypoxemia; hypoxia; hypoxaemic;

    Sammanfattning : Background Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major and rising cause of mortality worldwide, especially in women. Patients with chronic hypoxia owing to COPD are treated with long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) but have high morbidity and mortality. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Cardiovascular events after acute coronary syndrome with special reference to ischemic stroke

    Författare :Anders Ulvenstam; Thomas Mooe; Bo Carlberg; Per Tornvall; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Background: Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) encompasses acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and unstable angina (UA). It is a global major cause of morbidity and mortality in both the short and long terms. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Platelet activation and aggregation: Clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Sukhi Singh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Platelet concentrate; Adrenaline; Noradrenaline; Ticagrelor; Platelet aggregation; Platelet activation;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Dual antiplatelet therapy with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) and the adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-receptor antagonist ticagrelor increases the risk of bleeding complications during cardiac surgery. The overall aim of this thesis was to identify and evaluate current and potential methods to reduce and prevent bleeding complications in patients with ongoing antiplatelet therapy. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Platelet Inhibition and Bleeding Complications in Cardiac Surgery Patients - Clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Emma C. Hansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute coronary syndrome; Bleeding complications; Cardiac surgery; Platelet aggregation inhibitors; Platelet transfusion;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with acetylsalicylic acid and a P2Y12 inhibitor (clopidogrel, ticagrelor, or prasugrel) reduces thrombotic events in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), but it is also associated with an increased risk of bleeding complications. The aim of this project was to investigate the prevalence and effects of platelet inhibition in the context of cardiac surgery, the bleeding problems that may occur, and treatment of bleeding complications.
