  1. 1. Free oscillation rheometry in the assessment of platelet quality

    Författare :Nahreen Tynngård; Gösta Berlin; Tomas Lindahl; James AuBuchon; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coagulation; elasticity; platelets; rheology; transfusion; Transfusion medicine; Transfusionsmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Platelets play an important role in the haemostatic process in order to seal damaged blood vessels. The platelets form a platelet plug at the damaged area and prevent blood loss. Once the damage to the vessel wall has been covered, the platelets retract the coagulum, to allow the blood to flow freely in the vessel. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Platelet Inhibition and Bleeding Complications in Cardiac Surgery Patients - Clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Emma C. Hansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute coronary syndrome; Bleeding complications; Cardiac surgery; Platelet aggregation inhibitors; Platelet transfusion;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with acetylsalicylic acid and a P2Y12 inhibitor (clopidogrel, ticagrelor, or prasugrel) reduces thrombotic events in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), but it is also associated with an increased risk of bleeding complications. The aim of this project was to investigate the prevalence and effects of platelet inhibition in the context of cardiac surgery, the bleeding problems that may occur, and treatment of bleeding complications. 3. 3. Monitoring of coagulation and platelet function in paediatric cardiac surgery

    Författare :Birgitta S Romlin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; paediatric cardiac surgery; haemostasis; platelet; coagulation; thromboelastometry; impedance aggregometry; coagulopathy; haemoconcentration;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Background: Paediatric cardiac surgery has developed dramatically during the last decades. Today, a wide range of patients is operated on-from premature neonates to grown up children with congenital heart disease. Excessive bleeding during and after cardiac surgery is still common, and it is one of the most serious complications. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Dual roles for hepatic lectin receptors in the clearance of chilled platelets

    Författare :Viktoria Rumjantseva; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :platelet storage; Asialoglycoprotein receptor; GPIbα; αMβ2; transfusion; clearance;

    Sammanfattning : Platelets for transfusion are stored at room temperature because refrigerated platelets are cleared rapidly from circulation. Room temperature storage causes major inconveniences for blood banks and medical risks for recipients. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Platelet Inhibition and Bleeding in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

    Författare :Ulrica Alström; Elisabeth Ståhle; Ulf Schött; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bleeding; cardiac surgery; platelet inhibition; re-exploration; cost analysis; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Thoraxkirurgi; Thorax Surgery; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : A substantial number of patients undergoing cardiac surgery are on dual anti-platelet treatment with clopidogrel and aspirin. A disadvantage with this treatment is increased risk of bleeding. Bleeding is a complication of major concern associated with adverse outcome for the patient and increased hospital resource utilization. LÄS MER
