1. Inflammation and Coagulation Activity in Unstable Coronary Artery Disease and the Influences of Thrombin Inhibition
Sammanfattning : In patients with unstable coronary artery disease, this study evaluated the degree of inflammation and coagulation activity, relations to myocardial cell damage, prognosis, and influences of randomisation to 72 h infusion with three different doses of inogatran, a direct thrombin inhibitor (n=904), or unfractionated heparin (n=305). Anticoagulant treatment effects were evaluated with aPT time. LÄS MER
2. Biomarkers of inflammation in atrial fibrillation
Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common and associated with increased risk of stroke, heart failure (HF) and mortality. Inflammation is linked to AF.The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate inflammatory activity and cardiovascular outcomes and mortality in patients with AF on effective oral anticoagulation. 3. Atrial Fibrillation in the setting of Coronary Artery Disease : Risks and outcomes with different treatment options
Sammanfattning : Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of mortality worldwide and atrial fibrillation (AF) is a prevalent arrhythmia associated with increased risk of mortality and morbidity. Despite improved outcome in both diseases, there is a need to further describe the prevalence, outcome and management of CAD in patients with concomitant AF. LÄS MER
4. Regulation of Tissue Factor and Coagulation Activity : Translation Studies with Focus on Platelet-Monocyte Aggregates and Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome
Sammanfattning : Myocardial infarction (MI) is often caused by a disruption of an atherosclerotic plaque with activation of coagulation, platelets and inflammation. The aims were; to investigate whether the oral direct thrombin inhibitor, ximelagatran affected markers for coagulation, platelet and inflammation in a patient cohort with recent MI and if the coagulation markers could identify patients with increased risk of new ischemic events; to evaluate some of the mechanisms involved in formation of platelet-monocyte aggregates (PMAs). 5. New Risk Markers in Atrial Fibrillation
Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) confers an independent increased risk of stroke and death. The stroke risk is very heterogeneous and current risk stratification models based on clinical variables, such as the CHADS2 and CHA2DS2VASc score, only offer a modest discriminating value. LÄS MER
