  1. 1. Inflammation and Coagulation Activity in Unstable Coronary Artery Disease and the Influences of Thrombin Inhibition

    Författare :Jonas Oldgren; Steen Husted; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Unstable coronary artery disease; inflammation; coagulation; thrombin inhibition; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : In patients with unstable coronary artery disease, this study evaluated the degree of inflammation and coagulation activity, relations to myocardial cell damage, prognosis, and influences of randomisation to 72 h infusion with three different doses of inogatran, a direct thrombin inhibitor (n=904), or unfractionated heparin (n=305). Anticoagulant treatment effects were evaluated with aPT time. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Biomarkers of inflammation in atrial fibrillation

    Författare :Julia Aulin; Jonas Oldgren; Ziad Hijazi; Lars Wallentin; Håkan Wallén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; biomarkers; inflammation; inflammatory biomarkers; oral anticoagulation; heart failure; left ventricular function; ejection fraction; risk assessment; risk prediction; interleukin 6 IL-6 ; C-reactive protein CRP ;

    Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common and associated with increased risk of stroke, heart failure (HF) and mortality. Inflammation is linked to AF.The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate inflammatory activity and cardiovascular outcomes and mortality in patients with AF on effective oral anticoagulation. 3. 3. Atrial Fibrillation in the setting of Coronary Artery Disease : Risks and outcomes with different treatment options

    Författare :Gorav Batra; Jonas Oldgren; Gunnar Gislason; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; coronary artery disease; acute coronary syndrome; myocardial infarction; percutaneous coronary intervention; coronary artery bypass grafting; antithrombotic therapy; angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors; angiotensin II receptor blockers; epidemiology; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of mortality worldwide and atrial fibrillation (AF) is a prevalent arrhythmia associated with increased risk of mortality and morbidity. Despite improved outcome in both diseases, there is a need to further describe the prevalence, outcome and management of CAD in patients with concomitant AF. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulation of Tissue Factor and Coagulation Activity : Translation Studies with Focus on Platelet-Monocyte Aggregates and Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome

    Författare :Christina Christersson; Agneta Siegbahn; Lars Wallentin; Jonas Oldgren; Ingebjorg Seljeflot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Internal medicine; Myocardial infarction; Coagulation; Platelet-monocyte aggregates; Tissue factor; Thrombin inhibition; Invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Myocardial infarction (MI) is often caused by a disruption of an atherosclerotic plaque with activation of coagulation, platelets and inflammation. The aims were; to investigate whether the oral direct thrombin inhibitor, ximelagatran affected markers for coagulation, platelet and inflammation in a patient cohort with recent MI and if the coagulation markers could identify patients with increased risk of new ischemic events; to evaluate some of the mechanisms involved in formation of platelet-monocyte aggregates (PMAs). 5. 5. New Risk Markers in Atrial Fibrillation

    Författare :Ziad Hijazi; Jonas Oldgren; Lars Wallentin; Agneta Siegbahn; Ola Hammarsten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; stroke risk; cardiac biomarkers; troponin; natriuretic peptides; NT-proBNP; risk stratification; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) confers an independent increased risk of stroke and death. The stroke risk is very heterogeneous and current risk stratification models based on clinical variables, such as the CHADS2 and CHA2DS2VASc score, only offer a modest discriminating value. LÄS MER
