  1. 6. Lipid-based liquid crystals as drug delivery vehicles for antimicrobial peptides

    Författare :Lukas Boge; Martin Andersson; Lovisa Ringstad; RISE; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Liquid crystals; liquid crystalline nanoparticles; cubosome; hexosome; phase behavior; antimicrobial peptide; AMP; glycerol monooleate; proteolysis; antimicrobial effect; antimicrobial resistance; bacterial membrane; membrane interaction; infection; topical delivery; pulmonary delivery;

    Sammanfattning : The development of antimicrobial resistance is a great challenge within health sectors worldwide. Thus, demand for new, efficient treatments is urgent in order to treat various bacterial infections. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a group of antibiotics that have gained more and more attraction in the past decade. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Antimicrobial peptide therapy for tuberculosis infections

    Författare :Komal Umashankar Rao; Medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tuberculosis; antimicrobial peptides; mode of action; nanoparticles; novel therapy; membrane active peptides;

    Sammanfattning : Tuberculosis is a communicable disease that persists as a second leading cause for death, by an infectious agent. Several reasons contribute to this issue to this, of which an upsurge in antibiotic resistance is of top concern. Resistance patterns in the form of mono or multidrug resistance was reported to most clinical therapies at our disposal. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Functional dualism of antimicrobial host defence peptides

    Författare :Åse Björstad; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :antimicrobial; apoptosis; cathelicidin; host defence peptide; interleukin 8; LL-37; permeabilisation;

    Sammanfattning : Antimicrobial host defence peptides are central to innate immunity and many possess direct antimicrobial actions on bacteria as well as indirect immunomodulatory functions on human leukocytes. Different variants of the bifunctional Helicobacter pylori peptide, Hp(2-20), were synthesised and inhibition zone assays and chemiluminescence systems were employed for determination of direct antimicrobial action and superoxide release (immunomodulatory) from human neutrophils, respectively. 4. 9. Antimicrobial peptides in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory conditions : Preclinical studies of mechanism of action, efficacy, and safety

    Författare :Camilla Björn; RISE; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antimicrobial peptides; AMPs; innate immunity; infection; inflammation; mechanism of action; efficacy; safety; antimicrobial resistance; antibiotic resistance; Antimicrobial peptides; AMPs; innate immunity; infection; inflammation; mechanism of action; efficacy; safety; antimicrobial resistance; antibiotic resistance;

    Sammanfattning : The rapid emergence of antibiotic-resistant microbes worldwide and the urgent need of new antimicrobial agents have stimulated interest in antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) as new therapeutics for treatment of infectious diseases. AMPs are present in all living species and constitute an important part of the innate immune system in multicellular organisms, including humans. LÄS MER
