  1. 1. Perception, Analysis and Synthesis of Speaker Age

    Författare :Susanne Schötz; Fonetik; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; phonology; perceptual cues; speaker age; automatic speaker recognition; acoustic analysis; acoustic correlates; data-driven; Phonetics; formant synthesis; Fonetik; fonologi; Technological sciences; Teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Speaker age is an important paralinguistic feature in speech which has to be considered in the study of phonetic variation. Knowledge about this feature may be used to improve speech technology applications, e.g. automatic speech recognition and speech synthesis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Design foundations for content-rich acoustic interfaces : Investigating audemes as referential non-speech audio cues

    Författare :Mexhid Ferati; USA Indiana University; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer Science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : To access interactive systems, blind and visually impaired users can leverage their auditory senses by using non-speech sounds. The current structure of non-speech sounds, however, is geared toward conveying user interface operations (e.g., opening a file) rather than large theme-based information (e. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Vocal Expression of Emotion : Discrete-emotions and Dimensional Accounts

    Författare :Petri Laukka; Patrik N. Juslin; Erik Börjesson; Roddy Cowie; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; speech; emotion; vocal expression; emotion dimensions; acoustic cues; categorical perception; nonverbal communication; speech synthesis; cross-cultural communication; decoding accuracy; emotion intensity; meta-analysis; discrete emotions; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigated whether vocal emotion expressions are conveyed as discrete emotions or as continuous dimensions. Study I consisted of a meta-analysis of decoding accuracy of discrete emotions (anger, fear, happiness, love-tenderness, sadness) within and across cultures. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The acquisition of contrast : a longitudinal investigation of initial s+plosive cluster development in Swedish children

    Författare :Fredrik Karlsson; Kirk P. H. Sullivan; Peter E. Czigler; Marilyn M. Vihman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; phonological contrast; speech development; place and manner of articulation; aspiration; structural complexity; acoustic cues; homonym production; Phonetics; Fonetik;

    Sammanfattning : This Thesis explores the development of word-initial s+plosive consonant clusters in the speech of Swedish children between the ages of 1;6 and 4;6. Development in the word-initial consonant clusters is viewed as being determined by 1) the children’s ability to articulate the target sequence of consonants, 2) the level of understanding of which acoustic features in the adult model production are significant for the signalling of the intended distinction, and 3) the children’s ability to apply established production patterns only to productions where the acquired feature agrees with the adult target, to achieve a contrast between rival output forms. 5. 5. Sound for Multisensory Motion Simulators

    Författare :Alexander Väljamäe; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; auditory scene synthesis; spatial audio; presence; virtual reality; cognitive acoustics; illusory self-motion; vection ; multisensory optimization;

    Sammanfattning : Interaction in a virtual reality environment often implies situations of illusory self-motion, like, for example, in flight or driving scenarios. Striving for pictorial realism, currently available motion simulators often exhibit relatively poor sound design. LÄS MER
