  1. 6. Ethanol from Lignocellulose: Physiological Effects of Inhibitors and Fermentation Strategies

    Författare :Mohammad Taherzadeh Esfahani; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fermentation; dilute-acid hydrolyzate; ethanol; hydroxymethyl furfural; furfural; acetic acid; lignocellulose; fed-batch; yeast; pantothenate; control; inhibition; HMF;

    Sammanfattning : Fermentative ethanol production from dilute-acid hydrolyzates of wood using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated. Of known inhibitors in hydrolyzates, acetic acid, furfural and hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) were found in the highest concentrations (up to about 10 g/l). LÄS MER

  3. 8. Industrial challenges in the use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae for ethanolic fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass

    Författare :Violeta Sanchez Nogue; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Pentose fermentation; Evolutionary engineering; Acetic acid; pH; Short-term adaptation; Resident yeast; Spent sulphite liquor fermentation; Dekkera bruxellensis; Lactobacillus pentosus.;

    Sammanfattning : The sustainable production of ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass requires the combination of efficient hydrolysis and complete fermentation of all the monomeric sugars present in the raw material. The present work was aimed at tackling some of the major challenges that will be encountered in commercial-scale ethanol production using Baker’s yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the preferred microorganism for the fermentation step. 4. 9. Bioprocess Monitoring and Control in Pseudomonas cepacia and recombinant Escherichia coli cultivations

    Författare :Anita Tocaj; LTH Ingenjörshögskolan vid Campus Helsingborg; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; protein L; expanded bed; flow-injection analysis; recombinant protein production; acetic acid; on-line measurements; Pseudomonas cepacia; recombinant Escherichia coli; Fed-batch cultivations; control strategies; xylanase deletion derivatives from Rhodothermus marinus; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The control of cultivation conditions and its influence on growth and production have been investigated. The use of fed-batch processes have been demonstrated for several cultivation systems and so has the use of different control signals in these systems. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy Studies at the Air-Liquid Interface

    Författare :Eric Tyrode; Mark Rutland; Paul Davies; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sum Frequency Generation; SFG; VSFS; surfactant; adsorption; water; surface structure; hydration; surface tension; fluorosurfactants; liquid-air interface; poly ethylene oxide surfactants; surface molecular orientation; acetic acid.; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the structure and hydration of small organic and amphipilic compounds adsorbed at the air-liquid interface, have been studied using the nonlinear optical technique Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS). The second order nature of the sum frequency process makes this technique particularly surface sensitive and very suitable for interfacial studies, as molecules at the surface can be distinguished even in the presence of a vast excess of the same molecules in the bulk.
