  2. 37. Methane dynamics in northern wetlands: Significance of vascular plants

    Författare :Anna Joabsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aquatic ecology; marine biology; Hydrobiology; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; climate change; arctic wetlands; northern wetlands; plant-microbe interactions; methane emission; vascular plants; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The studies presented in Papers I to VI illustrate several different aspects of the impact of vascular plants on methane emissions from northern natural wetlands. The subject has been approached on different scales, ranging from the study of microbial substrates in the vicinity of a single plant root, to an attempt to extrapolate some of the results to the entire northern hemisphere north of 50°N. 3. 38. Temporal and spatial variability of carbon cycling in a subarctic landscape

    Författare :Torbjörn Johansson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geologi; physical geography; Geology; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; Permafrost; Herbivory; Subarctic; Aerial photography; Vegetation change; Carbon balance; fysisk geografi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the carbon balance in a subarctic landscape at different temporal and spatial scales. Its focus is mainly on the peatland and mountain birch forest (Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii) ecosystems within the Abisko area in northernmost Sweden. This is an area with a temperature close to the 0 OC mean annual isotherm. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Recruitment ecology and fungal interactions in mycoheterotrophic Ericaceae

    Författare :Veronika A. Johansson; Ove Eriksson; Andrew Taylor; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 454 Pyrosequencing; Dispersal limitation; Dust seeds; Ectomycorrhiza; Ericaceae; Microsite limitation; Monotropa hypopitys; Mycoheterotroph; Pyroleae; Seed limitation; Stable isotopes; Subterranean seedling; Symbiotic germination; Tricholoma; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : There are generally two contrasting alternatives to what limits recruitment in plants, namely the availability of seeds (seed limitation) or the quality or quantity of suitable sites (microsite limitation). Dust seeds, the smallest existing seeds, lack or have minimal nutrient reserves. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Bark lesions and sensitivity to frost in beech and Norway spruce

    Författare :Anna Maria Jönsson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Picea abies; Multiple stress; Mineral nutrient balance; Liming; Lichen indices; Fagus sylvatica; Cryptococcus fagisuga; Excess nitrogen; Vitality fertilization; Plant ecology; Växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Strong temperature fluctuations and pathogen attacks can cause bark lesions, visible signs of wounds in the phloem and cambium. Pathogenic insects and fungi are able to invade lesions that have not healed, further increasing the damage. LÄS MER
