  1. 1. Water and Carbon Balance Modeling: Methods of Uncertainty Analysis

    Författare :John Juston; Per-Erik Jansson; Georg Lindgren; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Modeling; uncertainty analysis; water balance; carbon balance; GLUE; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : How do additional data of the same and/or different type contribute to reducing model parameter and predictive uncertainties? This was the question addressed with two models – the HBV hydrological water balance model and the ICBM soil carbon balance model – that were used to investigate the usefulness of the Generalized Likelihood Uncertainty Estimation (GLUE) method for calibrations and uncertainty analyses.  The GLUE method is based on threshold screening of Monte Carlo simulations using so-called informal likelihood measures and subjective acceptance criterion. 2. 2. Remote Sensing of Carbon Balance across Scandinavian Forests

    Författare :Pontus Olofsson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Forests; Natural science; Naturvetenskap; Carbon balance; Remote sensing;

    Sammanfattning : A methodology for estimating the carbon balance across Scandinavian forests using remote sensing is presented. By estimating the gross primary production (GPP) and the ecosystem respiration (ER), and thereby, the net ecosystem exchange (NEE), using parameters that are routinely retrieved from satellite, it is possible to implement an operational model for obtaining large scale NEE. 3. 3. Fossil Free or Not - That is the Question

    Författare :Torbjörn Skytt; Bengt-Gunnar Jonsson; Monica Odlare; Markku Rummukainen; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fossil free; Carbon balance; Carbon flow; Energy flow; Climate mitigation; Governing climate change; Forest carbon;

    Sammanfattning : This is an evaluation of Jämtland County’s ability to achieve its climate targets to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with 10% annually, and to become fossil fuel free 2030. There is a risk that the target to become fossil fuel-free, relying primarily on outtake of forest biomass, contradicts with the target in the UN Paris Agreement to keep the global temperature increase below 1. 4. 4. Greenhouse Gas Fluxes and Carbon Sequestration in Young Norway Spruce Stands : The Effects of Fertilization

    Författare :Charlotta Håkansson; Johan Bergh; Per-Ola Hedwall; Monika Strömgren; Anna M. Jensen; Tomas Lundmark; Tobias Rütting; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; carbon balance; young mixed forests; Picea abies L. Karst. ; Betula spp; chamber measurements; forest floor greenhouse gas fluxes; eddy-flux technology; above ground biomass; carbon dioxide; methane; nitrous oxide; kolbalans; ung blandskog; Picea abies L. Sammanfattning : The enormous challenge of climate change is discussed and debated today because of its major impact on life on Earth. The forests have an important role to play as the plants absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere through their photosynthesis and the growing tree retain carbon (C). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Carbon gas biogeochemistry of a northern peatland - in a dynamic permafrost landscape

    Författare :Kristina Bäckstrand; Patrick M. Crill; Torben R. Christensen; David Bastviken; Kimberly P. Wickland; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon balance; Carbon exchange; Peatland; Subarctic; Climate change; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about biogeochemical processes of a northern peatland and their importance as a link between the climate and the terrestrial system. Increased temperatures on a global level, and particularly in the Arctic, have led to melting permafrost and changes in hydrology. LÄS MER
