21. Optimization of Colistin Dosage in the Treatment of Multiresistant Gram-negative Infections
Sammanfattning : As multidrug resistance in Gram-negative bacilli increases, the old antibiotic colistin has rapidly gained attention as one of few last line treatment options in the form of colistin methanesulfonate (CMS), which is hydrolyzed to colistin both in vitro and in vivo. There is a dearth of knowledge on fundamental aspects of colistin, including pharmacokinetics and optimal dosing regimens. LÄS MER
22. Tumour Survival Signals and Epigenetic Gene Silencing in Multiple Myeloma : Implications for Biology and Therapy
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on multiple myeloma (MM), a haematological malignancy that still remains incurable. The pathogenesis of MM is not fully understood and there is a large intra-tumour and interclonal genetic variation in MM patients. LÄS MER
23. Clinical aspects of restorative treatment in the primary dentition
Sammanfattning : The failure rate of restorative treatment in primary teeth was studied in a cohort of children born in 1981 and related to caries diagnosis, prevalence and distribution on different tooth surfaces, and compared with a cohort of children born in 1971. Concurrently, the longevity of composite resin in modified Class 2 cavities in primary molars was followed up and the resistance of deciduous and permanent enamel to acid adjacent to composite resin and glass polyalkeonate cement (GPA) was tested in vitro. 24. Vector development for suicide gene therapy
Sammanfattning : Gene therapy is used to treat conditions that arise from errors in the genetic makeup of cells either congenital diseases resulting from a deletion or mutation in a gene or malignant diseases where genetic regulation mechanisms have been deranged. Suicide gene therapy is one of several gene therapeutic approaches to treat cancer. LÄS MER
25. Affibody-Based Molecular Imaging and Targeted Therapy of HER3-Expressing Cancer
Sammanfattning : The human epidermal growth factor receptor type 3 (HER3) is overexpressed in different types of cancer and is a known contributor to disease progression and resistance to cancer therapy. This thesis is based on five original articles, which aimed to improve the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of affibody-based agents for management of HER3-expressing cancers. LÄS MER
