11. Cancer in organ transplant recipients
Sammanfattning : Tens of thousands of transplantations are performed around the world each year. Organ transplant recipients (OTR) are obliged to receive life-long medical treatment with immunosuppressive drugs to ensure graft function. However, such medications entail an increased risk of developing a broad spectrum of malignancies, especially skin cancer. LÄS MER
12. Verification of Dose Calculation Algorithms in Treatment Planning Systems for External Radiation Therapy: A Monte Carlo Approach
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a new verification concept, the virtual accelerator, for dose calculation algorithms used in treatment planning systems (TPSs) for external beam radiotherapy. The algorithm input data required to implement a treatment unit in the TPS are generated by Monte Carlo simulations as are the beam reference data needed for the subsequent evaluation of the dose calculation algorithm. 13. On Reduction of Production Disturbances in Manufacturing Systems Based on Discrete-Event Simulation
Sammanfattning : Improved efficiency in manufacturing systems to achieve increased output and thus reduced production disturbances is a vital area. DES (Discrete-Event Simulation) can visualize and study the dynamic issues related to total efficiency in manufacturing systems. A methodology for production disturbance reduction is presented. 14. Dual targeting of proteins to mitochondria and chloroplasts : Characterization of dual targeting peptides and their interaction with organellar receptors
Sammanfattning : Most mitochondrial and chloroplastic proteins are synthesized in the cytosol as precursor proteins with an N-terminal targeting peptide (TP), which directs them to the correct organelle. There is also a group of proteins that are dual targeted to mitochondria and chloroplasts using an ambiguous N-terminal dual targeting peptide (dTP). LÄS MER
15. Organizational Innovations: A conceptualization of how they are created, diffused and sustained
Sammanfattning : Organizational innovations are essential for firms’ long-term competitiveness. In spite of this, there is less research on organizational innovations than on technical innovations. The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to our understanding of how organizational innovations are created, diffused, and sustained. LÄS MER
