1. The mitochondrial adenosine triphosphatase complex : studies on the interaction between its catalytic and H⁺-translocation components
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present investigation was the characterization of the mitochondrial adenosine triphosphatase complex, with respect to its subunit composition and to the function of the individual components in the interaction between the catalytic and H+-translocating processes catalysed by this enzyme. The enzyme consists of two structurally and morphologically different units: a hydrophilic part Fl, the centre for the catalysis of the hydrolysis and synthesis of ATP, and a membrane part Fo, which constitutes a binding site for Fl and mediates the translocation of protons through the membrane. 2. The Mitochondrial Peptidasome, PreP, relation to Alzheimer Disease
Sammanfattning : Amyloid-β (Aβ) is the toxic peptide implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer Disease (AD). Accumulation of Aβ has been shown in brain mitochondria from AD patients and AD mice models. The occurrence of Aβ in the mitochondrial matrix leads to free radical generation and apoptosis in neurons. LÄS MER
3. Dual Targeting of Proteins to Mitochondria and Chloroplasts
Sammanfattning : The vast majority of mitochondrial and chloroplastic proteins are nuclear encoded, synthesized in the cytosol and imported into the respective organelle using an N-terminal extension, the targeting peptide (TP). After import into the organelle, the TP is cleaved off and degraded by the Presequence protease (PreP). LÄS MER
4. PresequenceProtease (PreP), a novel Peptidasome in Mitochondria and Chloroplasts : Localization, Function, Structure and Mechanism of Proteolysis
Sammanfattning : The information for mitochondrial and chloroplastic protein import and targeting generally resides in the N-terminal part of the protein, called a targeting peptide. The targeting peptide is cleaved off by the organellar processing peptidases after import of a precursor protein. LÄS MER
5. Functional and structural studies of the Presequence protease, PreP
Sammanfattning : AtPreP (Arabidopsis thaliana Presequence Protease) is a zink metallooligopeptidase that is dually targeted to both mitochondria and chloroplasts. In these organelles it functions as a peptidasome that degrades the N-terminal targeting peptides that are cleaved off from the mature protein after protein import, as well as other unstructured peptides.
