  1. 6. Fate of Pharmaceuticals and Their Transformation Products in Rivers : An integration of target analysis and screening methods to study attenuation processes

    Författare :Zhe Li; Anna Sobek; Michael McLachlan; Michael Radke; Kathrin Fenner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pharmaceuticals; transformation products; fate; river; suspect screening; non-target screening; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Pharmaceuticals are environmental contaminants causing steadily increasing concern due to their high usage, ubiquitous distribution in the aquatic environment, and potential to exert adverse effects on the ecosystems. After being discharged from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), pharmaceuticals can undergo transformation processes in surface waters, of which microbial degradation in river sediments is considered highly significant. 2. 7. Transformation of Micropollutants in the Hyporheic Zone

    Författare :Malte Posselt; Jonathan P. Benskin; Michael Radke; Merle Plassmann; Magnus Breitholtz; Ian Cousins; Gudrun Massmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; micropollutants; hyporheic zone; biodegradation; bacteria; pharmaceuticals; transformation products; LC-MS MS; macrophytes; bedforms; suspect screening; mesocosm; flume; river; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Hyporheic zones (HZs) are reactive transition regions between rivers and aquifers which are thought to play an important role in the attenuation of micropollutants. Micropollutants are chemical substances such as pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals or personal care products that are found in trace concentrations in the environment and that can be harmful to organisms. 3. 8. Implementation of MRI gel dosimetry in radiation therapy

    Författare :Sven Bäck; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; Cytology; uncertainty; detector; dosimeter; ferrous ions; gel dosimetry; magnetic resonance imaging; monomers; polymerisation; proton; treatment planning verification; radiation therapy; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : Gel dosimetry was used together with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure three-dimensional absorbed dose distributions in radiation therapy. Two different dosimeters were studied: ferrous- and monomer gel, based on the principles of radiation-induced oxidation and polymerisation, respectively. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Dual Targeting of Proteins to Mitochondria and Chloroplasts

    Författare :Anna-Karin Berglund; Elzbieta Glaser; Ophry Pines; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The vast majority of mitochondrial and chloroplastic proteins are nuclear encoded, synthesized in the cytosol and imported into the respective organelle using an N-terminal extension, the targeting peptide (TP). After import into the organelle, the TP is cleaved off and degraded by the Presequence protease (PreP). LÄS MER

  5. 10. Dose Management in Diagnostic Radiology - application of the DICOM imaging standard and a Monte Carlo dose engine for exposure surveillance

    Författare :Hans-Erik Källman; Anders Ahnesjö; Hilde M. Olerud; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiology; metadata; DICOM; radiation safety; Monte Carlo; source model; patient model; optimization; justification; Medicinsk radiofysik; Medical Radiophysics;

    Sammanfattning : Ionizing radiation is used in diagnostic radiology with a large contribution to the health of the patients. The regulations to limit the detrimental effects, e.g. cancer induction, are based on recommendations from the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP). LÄS MER
