1. Calcium-Aluminate as Biomaterial : Synthesis, Design and Evaluation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis different aspects of calcium-aluminate (CA) as biomaterial are presented. Calcium aluminate is a chemically bonded ceramic with inherent properties making it suitable for use as biomaterial in some applications. LÄS MER
2. Recognition and Evaluation by Video Synthesis Methods and Symmetry Features
Sammanfattning : Biometrics is being increasingly utilized for person authentication. It requires little or no efforts from the user as compared to traditional non-biometric systems where the user has to memorize PIN codes and passwords or carry pass cards and keys that can be easily forgotten or lost. 3. Pilicides and Curlicides : Design, synthesis, and evaluation of novel antibacterial agents targeting bacterial virulence
Sammanfattning : New strategies are needed to counter the growing problem of bacterial resistance to antibiotics. One such strategy is to design compounds that target bacterial virulence, which could work separately or in concert with conventional bacteriostatic or bactericidal antibiotics. LÄS MER
4. High Affinity Synthetic Molecular Binders for Proteins : Design, Synthesis and Evaluation
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the design and synthesis of small molecule derivatives and their polypeptide conjugates as high affinity binders for proteins: the D-dimer protein (D-dimer), a biomarker for diagnosis of thromboembolic diseases; human myeloperoxidase (MPO), a biomarker for cardiovascular diseases; and chitinases, potential targets for asthma therapy. The interactions between the synthetic binder molecules and those proteins were evaluated by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor analysis and fluorescence spectroscopy. LÄS MER
5. Interactive computer-aided expressive music performance : Analysis, control, modification and synthesis
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the design and implementation process of two applications (PerMORFer and MoodifierLive) for the interactive manipulation of music performance. Such applications aim at closing the gap between the musicians, who play the music, and the listeners, who passively listen to it. LÄS MER
