6. Turbulence-resolving simulations for engineering applications
Sammanfattning : Most fluid flows of industrial interest are turbulent and their accurate representation may be of vital importance for the design process of new products. To date, steady RANS methods are usually employed for the simulation of turbulent flows of everyday engineering problems. LÄS MER
7. Turbulent flows over permissive boundaries and porous walls
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates how in wall-bounded turbulent flows changes to the wall can induce changes in the flow. To this end, we investigate the use of wall boundary conditions meant to mimic the effect of textured surfaces. LÄS MER
8. Synthetic Paper for Point-of-Care Diagnostics : Capillary control, surface modifications, and their applications
Sammanfattning : Capillary-based platforms for diagnostics are popular for the point-of-care diagnostics market because of their low cost, easy fabrication, and easy operation. Lateral flow tests are an excellent example of capillary-based platforms for point-of-care diagnostics. LÄS MER
9. Structural-acoustic vibrations in wooden assemblies : Experimental modal analysis and finite element modelling
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis concerns flanking transmission in light weight, wooden multi-storey buildings within the low frequency, primarily 20-120 Hz. The overall aim is to investigate how the finite element method can contribute in the design phase to evaluate different junctions regarding flanking transmission. LÄS MER
10. On the control of virtual violins : Physical modelling and control of bowed string instruments
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats the control of sound synthesis of bowed string instruments based on physical modelling. The work followed two approaches: (a) a systematic exploration of the influence of control parameters (bow force, bow velocity, and bow-bridge distance) on the output of a physical model of the violin, and (b) measurements and analyses of the bowing parameters in real violin playing in order to model and parameterize basic classes of bowing patterns for synthesis control.
