1. Turbulent flows over permissive boundaries and porous walls
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates how in wall-bounded turbulent flows changes to the wall can induce changes in the flow. To this end, we investigate the use of wall boundary conditions meant to mimic the effect of textured surfaces. LÄS MER
2. Porous Silicon Microbioreactors - Applications and Technology
Sammanfattning : Microfluidic systems have become one of the most interesting fields in the research of chemical analysis. Miniaturized systems exhibit numerous practical advantages when compared with traditional batch-scale synthesis such as lower sample volumes, increased control of the reactions and higher sample throughput. 3. Statistical energy analysis and variational principles for the prediction of sound transmission in multilayered structures
Sammanfattning : Multilayered structures have many application in industry and society: they have peculiar properties and serve a variety of purposes, like structural support, thermal insulation, vibrational and acoustic isolation. This thesis concerns the prediction of sound transmission in multilayered structures. LÄS MER
4. Assessment of novel applications for nano-porous thermal insulation in district heating pipes and building walls
Sammanfattning : In nano-porous thermal insulation there is a strong relation between the pressure and the thermal conductivity, even at pressures close to atmospheric pressure. This thesis presents research on applications of nano-porous insulation in hybrid insulation district heating pipes and in building walls. LÄS MER
5. Porous Cerium Dioxide for Catalytic Applications
Sammanfattning : Mesoporous cerium dioxide with high crystallinity has been synthesized and studied by TEM, SEM, nitrogen adsorption, PXRD, AFM, and SAXS. The catalytic properties of the materials have been investigated The results of the catalysis experiments were correlated with high resolution TEM investigations of the corresponding material, and it was found that the exposed crystallographic facets play an important role in the conversion of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide.
