6. Practices for the Living and the Dead : Medieval and Post-Reformation Burials in Scandinavia
Sammanfattning : The main themes of the thesis are burial customs and social identities, and how medieval and post-Reformation graves can provide information on such as age structures, phases in life, gender relations and social organization. The study is based on nine groups of Scandinavian material, and it comprises four case studies. LÄS MER
7. Cerebral Perfusion and Metabolism during Experimental Extracorporeal Circulation
Sammanfattning : Neurologic injuries are major causes of mortality and morbidity after cardiac surgery. This thesis aimed to investigate cerebral metabolism and perfusion abnormalities in pigs during hypothermic circulatory arrest, selective antegrade cerebral perfusion (SACP) and extracorporeal circulation following progressive venous stasis. 8. Bayesian Inference for Microwave Diagnostics at Joint European Torus
Sammanfattning : The major goal of this thesis is to perform Bayesian inference jointly for electron kinetic profiles, a toroidal magnetic field correction, diagnostic sensitivities, and wall reflection properties given noisy measurements of four microwave diagnostics at the tokamak JET. Besides the measurements, this kind of inference considers prior knowledge, like profile length-scales, to update objectively the information about the physics parameters. LÄS MER
9. Superoxide dismutase 1 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting motor neurons in the spinal cord, brain stem and motor cortex, leading to paralysis, respiratory failure and death. In about 5% of ALS cases, the disease is associated with mutations in the CuZn-superoxide dismutase (hSOD1) gene. LÄS MER
10. Towards energy-based fracture modelling for crashworthiness applications
Sammanfattning : The automotive industry is currently adapting to progessively more stringent emission and safety regulations imposed by governmental agencies. This introduces significant design difficulties due to the conflicting nature of passenger safety in automotive manufacturing, namely that increased crashworthiness generally leads to heavier vehicles, which in turn leads to more severe crashes.
