1. Hydrophobic surfaces: Effect of surface structure on wetting and interaction forces
Sammanfattning : The use of hydrophobic surfaces is important for many processes both in nature and industry. Interactions between hydrophobic species play a key role in industrial applications such as water-cleaning procedures and pitch control during papermaking but they also give information on how to design surfaces like hydrophobic mineral pigments. 2. On the interactions in cellulose systems : surface forces and adsorption
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the interactions in cellulose systems havebeen studied with emphasis on surface forces and adsorptionphenomenon. The study was limited to surfaces and polymers ofinterest for papermaking. LÄS MER
3. Interfacial Properties of Biomacromolecular Model Systems: Surface Forces and Nanotribology
Sammanfattning : The nanotribology, adhesion and related interfacial properties of biomacromolecular systems have been studied. The aim was to elucidate the role of physisorbed and chemically grafted bio-polymers implicated as mediators for cellulose based processing and material design. LÄS MER
4. Surface chemical behaviour
Sammanfattning : The objective of the investigations included in this thesisis to show how the properties of alkyd resins, used as bindersin offset printing inks, affect the ink in terms of pigmentdispersion, emulsification of fountain solution, and inksetting. The interactions between alkyd resins and aqueous solutionshave been investigated by interfacial tension measurementsusing the pendant drop technique and by measurement of dropletsize using light diffraction. 5. Conduction laser welding : modelling of melt pool with free surface deformation
Sammanfattning : Laser welding is commonly used in the automotive-, steel- and aerospace industry. It is a highly non-linear and coupled process where the weld geometry is strongly affected by the flow pattern in the melt pool. Experimental observations are challenging since the melt pool and melt flow below the surface are not yet accessible during welding. LÄS MER
