1. From Macro to Nano : Electrokinetic Transport and Surface Control
Sammanfattning : Today, the growing and aging population, and the rise of new global threats on human health puts an increasing demand on the healthcare system and calls for preventive actions. To make existing medical treatments more efficient and widely accessible and to prevent the emergence of new threats such as drug-resistant bacteria, improved diagnostic technologies are needed. 2. ROLE OF SURFACE OXIDES IN SINTERING OF CHROMIUM-ALLOYED STEEL POWDER
Sammanfattning : During water-atomisation and handling of steel powder the surface inevitably oxidises. The surface bound oxide is an important factor in the processing of powder metallurgical (PM) steels, especially in case the powder contains elements forming stable oxides, such as Cr, Mn, and Si. 3. Interfacial Properties of Biomacromolecular Model Systems: Surface Forces and Nanotribology
Sammanfattning : The nanotribology, adhesion and related interfacial properties of biomacromolecular systems have been studied. The aim was to elucidate the role of physisorbed and chemically grafted bio-polymers implicated as mediators for cellulose based processing and material design. LÄS MER
4. Perceptual Surface Reconstruction
Sammanfattning : How does the brain transform the 2-D light arrays in our eyes into a meaningful 3-D description of surfaces around us? What assumptions does the visual system make about the world when information is incomplete? And how are these assumptions computationally expressed in this perceptual reconstruction process? These questions, and other aspects of binocular depth perception are analysed from a theoretical and computational perspective, as well as through empirical investigations. In paper one, the fundamentals of stereopsis are briefly reviewed, and the difficulties related with resolving the (stereo) correspondence problem are particularly discussed. LÄS MER
5. The effect of surface steps and oxides on the catalytic activity on model Pd and Rh catalysts
Sammanfattning : A catalyst is a substance that can speed up the rate of a chemical reaction without itself being consumed. Catalysts are crucial for chemical production industries, where about 90% of all chemicals are produced using catalysts. LÄS MER
